Rafaelhoteles Badalona
Avenida de Navarra, 6-8

Rafaelhoteles Badalona is a modern three-pearl hotel in Badalona, around 40 minutes northeast of Barcelona by train. It’s a 15-minute walk from a clean and relatively quiet stretch of beach, as well as a selection of bars and restaurants. The immediate area, though, isn't attractive due to busy roads and highways. Highlights include a roof terrace and a restaurant serving modern Catalonian cuisine. The 142 rooms are pleasantly modern, with amenities like air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi. Downsides? Rooms are small, there's not much nearby, and parking is expensive. The hotel draws business travelers and tourist couples willing to travel farther to reach the region's main sights. Travelers seeking a hotel with a pool that’s closer to the beach could consider Bel Air Hotel in Castelldefels instead, which is southeast of Barcelona.

Paradise Lago Taurito
Urb. Taurito s/n, Playa de Taurito, Mogan

Paradise Lago Taurito is a mid-range all-inclusive located in the Taurito resort development. Guests receive free entry to the water park, Disco Bambino, arcade, and kids’ club -- along with discounted spa access and parking. Rooms are spacious and all have flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and balconies. Most have partial sea views, but Wi-Fi and safe access cost extra. The extensive pool area stretches the entire length of the hotel, and has a heated pool with separate whirlpool, sun deck, poolside bar, and kids’ pool. All-inclusive rates include buffet meals, though they can be a crowded affair. There’s also a comprehensive entertainment program, and free Wi-Fi in reception. For something family-friendly, but a bit cozier, check out Cabau Cala Nova instead. It's in Puerto Rico but lacks an all-inclusive option.

Paradise Valle Taurito
Calle Alhambra, S/N

The 190-room Valle Taurito is a bustling beachfront hotel about a 10-minute drive from both Puerto de Mogan and Puerto Rico. The highlight at this upper-middle-range property is the attached water park to which all guests get free access. With slides and splash pools plus a spa, a fitness center, and several dining and drinking options, the shared facilities at this three-resort compound attract lots of young couples and families. Rooms are spacious and contemporary, with a brown palette, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and balconies. The hotel also features a buffet restaurant serving a decent international spread, and a large pool, though there frequently aren't enough loungers. Couples looking for more quiet should compare rates at sister property Paradise Costa Taurito, which is adult-only in the winter, but less stylish.

Hotel Atenea Port Barcelona Mataro
Passeig Maritim 324

The 105-room Hotel Atenea Port Barcelona Mataro is an upscale property located on the town of Mataro's harbor, within walking distance of the beach, restaurants, bars, and shops. Rooms are modern and fresh, and all come with balconies and views of the sea. Ten apartments offer full kitchens, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. A buffet breakfast is served daily, as well as lunch and dinner, and the bar has a nice outdoor area overlooking the harbor. The outdoor pool is basic and sometimes doesn't have enough lounge chairs, but it also overlooks the marina. There's also a sleek spa and fitness center, and the library provides computers and books. For a hotel that's a little closer to Barcelona, the Rafaelhoteles Badalona in nearby Badalona is a sharp alternative.

Hotel Desbrull
Calle Marques Desbrull 7

Hotel Desbrull will appeal to travelers seeking modern, attractive accommodations with traditional charm. The small, two-and-a-half-pearl property set in townhouse in the center of picturesque Pollenca is family-run, and guests can expect individual attention and service. Its six rooms are simple and elegant, with free Wi-Fi and full bathrooms, though there's little else in the way of amenities. Features are limited too, but a decent breakfast of cold and freshly cooked items is always included in the rate, and it can be taken to cafe tables out front. While it provides a perfectly pleasant base to explore the surrounding area, travelers looking for a similar stay with more amenities can check out the nearby Hotel Son Sant Jordi, which often has higher rates but adds a small spa and pool.

Son Brull Hotel & Spa
Carretera Palma a Pto. Pollenca 220, Km 49,8

The 23-room Son Brull Hotel is a seriously luxurious boutique-style property occupying a beautifully restored 18th-century monastery. The hotel has serene and scenic rural setting, with extensive gardens on-site and farmland surrounding; the location is a major part of the draw, but don't expect much within walking distance. The interior design is impeccably tasteful, modern, and stylish, while allowing plenty of room for the plentiful historic features to shine. Food is outstanding from breakfast through dinner, and brimming with homegrown produce, although some complain portions can feel stingy. Both indoor and outdoor pools are long enough for laps, and spa facilities are top-notch. There are few child-friendly amenities, so kids could easily get bored. All in all, its one of the finest -- and inevitably priciest -- luxury retreats on the island; families with little ones, however, may prefer the family-friendly and also high-end Barcelo Formentor.

Hotel Son Sant Jordi
Calle Sant Jordi 29

Hotel Son Sant Jordi is a three-and-a-half pearl boutique property brimming with homey charm and original 17th-century features. It's set overlooking a lovely little square in the quaint old town of Pollenca, a minute's walk from plenty of restaurants and cafes. The 20 guest rooms and suites are, somewhat confusingly, spread through four buildings and range from simple and rustic, to upscale and contemporary. Some suites feature rooftop terraces with spectacular views of the surrounding neighborhood. A highlight is the hotel's secluded garden, which features a shaded pool and wellness room. Another draw is the hotel's buzzy restaurant that spills onto the street plaza. For a slicker marriage of modern with traditional, the Cas Ferrer Nou Hotelet offers designer rooms set in the equally scenic nearby town of Alcudia -- though it doesn't have pool or spa facilities.

Playa Moreia Apartments
Camino Mar 2

The lower-middle-range Playa Moreia Apartments offers value accommodation, right on Cala Moreia's white-sand beach. Functional layouts reflect the budget price tag, although amenities are sufficient. They include loungers around a sunny outdoor pool, indoor games, and buffet dining, but fees apply for nearly everything, and no all-inclusive packages are available. All renovated in 2016, 113 Studios and Apartments have colorful decor, kitchenettes, and balconies, but only some are air-conditioned and not all of the floors and bathrooms were updated. Penny-pinching British and European couples and families form the bulk of guests here, and they find the nearby selection of eateries good. Attractive, all-inclusive deals at the Playa Blanca Hotel are also worth considering.
