Playa Grande Resort
Playa Grande 1

For the money, few beachfront hotels in Cabo San Lucas offer more resort amenities than the four-pearl Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa. With three full restaurants (including an authentic beachfront Mexican restaurant and an open-air sushi bar), a massive main pool, a location convenient to downtown Cabo, and a beautiful spa, it’s hard to imagine guests wanting more. The 260 suites are spacious, tropically designed, and modern with kitchens or kitchenettes, posh marble bathrooms, and private furnished balconies with water views. The lack of a swimmable beach (common in Cabo) and pricey Wi-Fi fees may dissuade some. For a bit more money, the neighboring sister property, The Ridge at Playa Grande, offers access to the same amenities, plus a stunning rooftop pool terrace and a quieter, adult-oriented vibe.

Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort and Spa
KM 18. 5 Carretera Transpeninsular CSL-SJC

The upscale Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort & Spa is a popular all-inclusive option on The Corridor in Cabo. The resort's contemporary Spanish-style design carries over to the 308 suites, all of which have minibars, furnished balconies, and premium cable. There isn't much within walking distance of the property, but couples and families who stay here are kept plenty busy on-site. Highlights include seven restaurants, four bars with top shelf liquors, two outdoor pools with activities, plus a spa and modern fitness center. There's also a full beach setup, though like many hotels in the area, the water is usually too rough for swimming. With a kids’ club, daily DJ sets, and evening entertainment, expect an energetic (and often noisy) atmosphere. For an alternative closer to downtown Cabo, the Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa has similar rates and features, plus rooms with kitchenettes.

Hacienda Beach Club & Residences
Gomez Farias S/N, Col. El Médano

Spectacular Sea of Cortez views and some of the best dining in Cabo San Lucas -- Hacienda Beach Club & Residences has a lot going for it. This luxury property has 109 contemporary Mexican apartments, ranging from One-Bedroom Residences to Beachfront Villas. For the most part, the property is the definition of tranquil, with a lovely spa, gym, and a bi-level infinity pool with stunning Land's End views. And while the location on Medano Beach is spectacular -- and San Lucas' bustling marina is less than a five-minute walk away -- a bit of noise from party boats in the bay is inevitable. Those wanting to be a bit more removed from the town's melee should consider the Resort at Pedregal, which has equally posh rooms and slightly lower rates.

Cabo Villas Beach Resort
Callejon del Pescador s/n, Col. El Medano

The four-pearl Cabo Villas Beach Resort and Spa has a prime spot within easy walking distance to popular beach clubs, and directly on Playa el Medano (the most swimmable beach in Cabo). Renovations started in early 2017, and Cabo Villas has already added a beachfront restaurant, gorgeous private beach area, and an updated lobby to the two outdoor pools (one with a swim-up bar), spacious sundeck, and tranquil spa already on-site. Ranging in size from Studio Suites to a massive Penthouse, all 138 rooms are contemporary with flat-screen TVs and balconies -- though only rooms on the higher levels have decent ocean views. A second renovation to add more rooms and a fitness center, is expected to be completed in 2018. Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort & Spa is another upscale beach option, and rates there are all-inclusive. *Note that the hotel will change its name to Cachet Beach Hotel Los Cabos, in 2018

Tesoro Los Cabos
Blvd. Marina Lotes 9 y 10, Colonia Centro

This spacious 286-room hotel sits in the heart of downtown Cabo San Lucas along the bustling harbor (great for those who want to be in the thick of things). The property used to be a Wyndham and there are aging signs of the former; that being said, Tesoro's signature piece-de-resistance is a modern outdoor pool with two raised jetted tubs. Three restaurants and three bars stave off boredom, but most tend to hit the town for dinner and nightlife. Mature types should beware of staying here in March and April when the hotel is practically taken over by young partiers; romantics and families, in general, might want to consider the nearby all-inclusive Sandos Finisterra Los Cabos, which has a wide beach setting.

The Ridge at Playa Grande
Av Playa Grande 1A, Centro

Though it’s billed as a standalone property, The Ridge at Playa Grande is actually a wing of the much larger Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa. The Ridge has two rooftop pools of its own, plus an a la carte restaurant and great marina views. Features at the larger resort are also available to guests, and Cabo San Lucas' marina is five to 10 minutes away on foot. The 98 apartment-style rooms are large and classic, with kitchenettes, flat-screen TVs, and ocean-view balconies. While the collective list of amenities isn’t missing much, some guests may find the dated nature of some common areas less than appealing. Guests seeking the same amenities in a family-friendly package should look to the more affordable Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa.

Cabo Vista Hotel
Ave. Cabo San Lucas, Corner With Revolucion 1910

In contrast to the area’s towering resorts, Cabo Vista Hotel offers modest, budget lodging with all the essentials for travelers who will be out exploring all day. All 23 rooms are bright and modern, and include modern amenities like large internet-connected TVs, free Wi-Fi, private balconies, and kitchenettes. While the property provides a solid home base for exploring central Cabo San Lucas, the lack of any common amenities may dissuade some guests. It's also less than a 10-minute walk to most of the town's bars and restaurants. Few hotels in the area can compete on price, however, guests seeking a similar property will find more room to spread out at Los Milagros Hotel which features a small pool and garden-style terrace.

Los Cabos Golf Resort
Via de Carlos Lote No. 601, Carr. Transpeninsular km 3.7

Los Cabos Golf Resort is -- on the surface -- one of Cabo San Lucas’ better three-and-a-half-pearl options for travelers seeking an affordable golf getaway. A two-tiered pool, an alfresco Mexican restaurant, and a large, grotto-style hot tub round out the decent list of amenities. The 74 rooms are spacious and modern, with kitchenettes, flat-screen TVs, and private balconies. However, the hotel’s semi-secluded location means a lack of anything in the immediate vicinity; the one-room spa is forgettable; and the aggressive time share pitches detract from the upmarket appeal of the rooms. Those who'd rather be close to the beach and party scene in town should consider Bahia Hotel & Beach Club, which has similar rates and a foodie restaurant, just be sure to ask for an updated room.

Los Milagros Hotel
Calle Mariano Matamoros 3738, Colonia Ildefonso Green

Situated on an unassuming residential street in the middle of downtown Cabo San Lucas, Los Milagros Hotel is a simple boutique hotel with a bit more style than its budget-hotel competitors in the area. Each of the 12 rooms is clean, and some have quaint details like vaulted brick ceilings. Free Wi-Fi and air-conditioning come standard, though some rooms have dated features like tube TVs. While the list of common amenities is brief, the cozy pool and garden-style patio provide a relaxed, unpretentious place for guests to hang out after a day at the beach or a night out partying. This is a quiet spot, and those seeking something with more energy should consider the Tesoro Los Cabos instead, which has similar rates and extras like a fitness room.

Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection
Carretera Transpeninsular San Jose-San Lucas Km. 15, Playa Chileno Bay

One of the best boutique resorts in Los Cabos, Chileno Bay Resort & Residences is a luxury property with a cool, casual vibe. The 60 rooms here are clustered around beautifully tiered pools that lead to a swimmable beach -- a rarity in Los Cabos. The desert landscaping and cool art found around the property complement the bright beach-chic style found in the rooms. You'll also score standard features like beautiful indoor-outdoor bathrooms and spacious terraces (many with ocean views). The atmosphere is upbeat, but tranquil, from the gorgeous spa to locavore dining and wellness programs. Tech-savvy teen and kids' clubs round things out. If you'd prefer a more formal resort, opt for Las Ventanas al Paraiso, where butlers and multi-room suites are standard, but there's no swimmable beach.
