Its 84 guest rooms are chic and spotless, and they're well-equipped with flat-screen TVs, minibars, kettles, free tea, coffee, and bottled water, and free Wi-Fi, and some units have sweeping city views. The full-service restaurant serves an excellent free breakfast spread with Asian and Western options, and the hotel has a spa with body treatments and two saunas, and a fitness center, although equipment is limited. JW Marriott Hotel Hanoi
08 Do Duc Duc, Me Tri Ward, South Tu Liem District

Opened in 2013, the 445-guest room JW Marriott Hanoi is one of the newer luxury hotels in Hanoi and aimed squarely at business travelers. The hotel is situated in an ultra-modern glass building located outside on the campus of the National Convention Center. Guest rooms and suites are spacious and light-filled; they have chic, contemporary decor and modern amenities like 42-inch flat-screens, DVD players, and iPod docks -- but in-room Wi-Fi incurs a fee. On-site features do not disappoint, and include three restaurants, an indoor lap pool, a 24-hour fitness center, and a spa. Guests in Executive Rooms and Suites enjoy free breakfast, snacks, and drinks in the Executive Lounge. InterContinental Hanoi Westlake is a comparable five-pearl alternative with similar amenities, including an outdoor pool and kids' pool.

Lantana Boutique Hotel Hoi An
09 Thoai Ngoc Hau Street

The 34-room Lantana Boutique Hotel Hoi An is a lovely, upscale property a block from the Ancient Town. Rooms are cheerful and stylish, with painted floor tiles, local art on walls, free Wi-Fi, and great bathrooms with rain showers. Most have balconies, and many have views of the river, but a few are a tad compact. The restaurant serves a free, varied breakfast buffet, as well as excellent local cuisine for lunch and dinner, while the lantern-lit bar -- complete with riverside seating -- is an appealing spot for a drink in the evening. The pool is pleasant and spacious, but it is covered and the deck doesn’t get much sun. Rates at the Lantana are competitive, but travelers on a tighter budget may want to consider the Royal Riverside Hoi An Hotel, which is just a couple of blocks farther away from the center.

Six Senses Ninh Van Bay
Ninh Van Bay

The Six Senses Ninh Van Bay is a luxury boutique resort that offers 58 villas with private plunge pools and gorgeous sea views. The secluded property is reachable only by water; airport transfers by road and speedboat are convenient, but not included in rates. Villas feature beautiful wooden interiors with modern amenities, while rustic-style bathrooms have wooden bathtubs; those along the beachfront have paths running directly to the sand. The free breakfast buffet offers an excellent selection of dishes; lunch and dinner menus get more mixed reviews, but the resort’s dining experiences are memorable, as is the fantastic spa and the large main pool. The resort is expansive and the ultra-secluded Hill Top Villas are a fair way out, but bicycles and golf buggies are available. For similar luxury and an island location, travelers might want to check out the Vinpearl Luxury Nha Trang.

Villas feature private plunge pools and deep soaking tubs, and most also have large living areas with full kitchens. The spa is housed in a beautiful stand-alone building, and the fitness center offers free yoga and tai chi classes. The pools -- one of which has an infinity-edge overlooking the beach -- are gorgeous and relaxing. The main restaurant serves traditional Vietnamese cuisine, while snacks and smaller bites are available poolside and at the beach. The Fusion Maia Da Nang is an excellent alternative, with free daily spa services, free yoga classes, and contemporary villas with private pools and outdoor living areas.
