Evason Ana Mandara Nha Trang
Beachside Tran Phu Boulevard, Khanh Hoa

The five-pearl Evason Ana Mandara Nha Trang offers 74 luxurious rooms at the only true beachfront resort in Nha Trang. The resort fuses traditional Vietnamese accents and contemporary design, and is set amid lovely tropical gardens. All rooms feature private terraces with garden or beach views, and some have outdoor showers and tubs. There are ample chances to relax or stay active, with a wide sandy beach, a spa, two outdoor pools, and activities like water sports, tennis, and biking. Two on-site restaurants have lovely sea views. Guests looking for luxury at slightly lower rates should consider The InterContinental Nha Trang, though it lacks the same level of charm.

Pullman Saigon Centre
148 Tran Hung Dao, District 1

The luxury Pullman Saigon Centre Hotel is popular with those on business, but its location close to major sights -- and a free shuttle bus -- makes it a firm choice for leisure travelers too. Elegant, contemporary design runs throughout the tall glass tower, from the sleek public spaces to the 306 spacious, quiet rooms. The latter have comfortable beds, broadband TVs, and incredible views from higher floors. There’s a decent-sized pool, plus a whirlpool, sauna, spa, and well-equipped gym that’s open 24/7. The breakfast buffet offers wide variety, though it’s not included in all rates, and Wi-Fi connections are free and fast throughout. Other alternatives could be the four-pearl Liberty Central Saigon Riverside Hotel -- which is even more in the thick of the action -- or the luxury Park Hyatt, with more of an old Saigon look.

Paris Beach Village Phu Quoc
Tran Hung Dao Street, Cau Ba Phong, Cua Lap

The 34-room Paris Beach is a friendly budget property located right on a sandy beach a 10-minute drive from Duong Dong city center. Rooms feature charming vine-covered patios and solid amenities such as air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs, but decor is dated throughout, and some rooms are a little tight. The cute beachfront restaurant serves a free breakfast buffet daily, as well as a la carte lunch and barbecue dinners with ocean views. The pool is small and pleasant, with a kiddy section, a bar, and a couple dozen wooden loungers placed under big umbrellas. The property is lovely throughout, and location right on the beach is convenient, but rates can be higher than at other similar properties in the area, and noise from the adjacent construction sites can be an issue. In this price range, the Thanh Kieu Beach Resort offers better value overall.

Holiday Diamond Hotel
Number 6 Lane 14 Nguyen Cong Tru street

For those who don't mind a 30-minute walk to the Hue Citadel of a five-minute walk to Perfume River, the two-pearl Holiday Diamond Hotel is a solid budget option with lot of great perks in and out of the rooms. The 20 rooms are simple, but clean, and go above and beyond what’s expected for a hotel in this price range with air-conditioning, stocked mini-fridges, and laptops -- yes, laptops -- in rooms. The warm nature of the staff and a free made-to-order and virtually unlimited breakfast attract lots of tourists who love the cheap prices and all the freebies (like guest pickup from the airport) included in the stay. Too bad there's no pool here. Travelers could also consider the nearby Moonlight Hotel Hue which has similar prices, plus a pool and gym.

Golden Silk Boutique Hotel
109-111 Hang Gai

The Golden Silk Boutique Hotel is a mid-range property located near Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi's historic Old Quarter. It's ideal for exploring the heart of the old town, and is surrounded by countless restaurants and anything else a tourist might want. The hotel has an ornate lobby, as well as a stylish restaurant for free breakfast, an atmospheric bar, and a spa. Fifty-five rooms have wood floors and furniture, lacquer paintings, and modern amenities like flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Lower category rooms don't have windows and show signs of age. The nearby Hanoi Elegance Diamond Hotel has nicer rooms and modern bathrooms.

Sea Star Resort Phu Quoc
98/2 Tran Hung Dao Street

The 78-room Sea Star Resort is a friendly budget hotel with a convenient location on sandy beach a 15-minute walk from the center of Duong Dong. Its rooms -- some of which are housed in cute bungalows -- are simple, with generic decor in dark brown hues, and basic amenities such as air-conditioning, older flat-panel TVs, minibars, and electric kettles. The pool is pleasant and relaxing, with serene sea views and a few loungers, and the beach offers great sunset views. The restaurant serves average Vietnamese and international fare, while a thatched bar keeps drinks flowing during the day at the beach. The property is one of the top picks in Phu Quoc for tour operator TUI, and it can feel overrun with groups at times. Neighboring Thanh Kieu Beach Resort is cheaper and has more charm, but lacks a pool.

Muca Hoi An Boutique Resort & Spa
Cua Dai St., 115 - 117 Alley, Vong Nhi Hamlet, Cam Thanh Village

Muca Hoi An Boutique Resort is a charming mid-range property with a picturesque Thu Bon River setting between the beach and Hoi An’s Ancient Town. Its 35 rooms are unassuming but comfortable, with huge beds, minibars, free Wi-Fi, and clean bathrooms with spacious walk-in showers. The garden is beautiful and tranquil, with a lovely pool overlooking the river, tons of tropical plants, and many quiet nooks for unwinding. All guests get free vouchers for a 15-minute foot massage at the spa, which has indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, and a small salon area with nail services. The restaurant serves good international cuisine in an open dining room by the river, and the floating lounge is a great spot for evening drinks or a bite during the day. The hotel offers free shuttle service to the city center several times per day, but those wanting to stay closer to the main attractions may want to consider the stylish Royal Riverside Hoi An Hotel as well.

Hanoi Pearl Hotel
Number 6, Bao Khanh Lane, Hoan Kiem District

The Hanoi Pearl Hotel is a mid-range hotel with a convenient location on a quiet street in the city's Old Quarter. It's close to shopping and dining, and within walking distance of popular attractions, including Hoan Kiem Lake. The 70 rooms have a traditional style and feature air-conditioning, minibars, and flat-screen TVs, though keep in mind that some rooms lack windows. Connecting rooms are available, which isn't common with smaller hotels in the area. The rooftop bar is a great spot, and the outside garden terrace is a hidden gem, with its views over the lake. There's a small gym, spa, and a bistro-style restaurant serving all meals. Alternatively, guests looking for a more modern finish might opt for the Hanoi Elegance Diamond Hotel instead.

Apricot Hotel
136 Hang Trong, Hoan Kiem

One of the few true upscale properties in central Hanoi, Apricot Hotel stands out among its competitors. That's not only for its superb location -- within a 10-minute walk of shopping and close to Hoan Kiem Lake -- but also for its beautiful, classic style. The attention to detail is excellent, with classic artistic touches throughout the building. The 123 rooms feature large flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, with some top-end rooms offering private terraces. Many have fantastic views over the lake and city, but it's worth noting that Sketch Rooms look only onto the interior courtyard. A rooftop pool is a nice addition and there's a spa, plus a rather small gym. A look at the Hotel de l'Opera Hanoi would be a worthwhile comparison, which is close to high-end shopping.

Chen Sea Resort & Spa Phu Quoc
Bai Xep, Ong Lang,, Cua Duong, Kien Giang,

Chen Sea Resort is a luxurious, intimate property located on a sandy beach a 20-minute drive from central Duong Dong. Its 36 villas are beautiful and stylish, with upscale amenities, great bathrooms with separate rain showers and soaking tubs (some outdoors), and large terraces, many with sea views. Some villas are housed in original traditional houses brought from Hoi An and reassembled on-site. The gorgeous infinity pool is quiet and relaxing, with cushioned loungers, waiter service, and no music. The restaurant serves excellent Italian and Vietnamese cuisine in an open thatched pavilion with a large deck overlooking the sea, while GHE Lounge is popular for sunset drinks. Those seeking something a little cheaper may want to compare rates at Salinda Resort Phu Quoc Island, another excellent luxury pick located closer to the airport and the city.
