Westgate Park City Resort & Spa
3000 Canyons Resort Drive

Westgate Park City Resort & Spa is a large ski-in, ski-out property situated at the base of the Canyons Resort gondola. A mix of regular and timeshare rooms consist mainly of apartment-style quarters with washers and dryers, full kitchens, and separate living areas. A formal and a casual restaurant, a large indoor/outdoor pool, a modest spa, a free shuttle service to town, and an entertainment center for children are a few of the many amenities at the four-pearl resort. Boots and skis are kept on separate floors, and buildings are not always well-marked and thus can be difficult to find. There have been occasional reports of lapses in cleanliness; different agencies may be responsible for the upkeep of the timeshare and non-timeshare rooms.

Broken Spur Inn
955 E Sr-24

The three-pearl Broken Spur Inn is an affordable hotel with a distinctive Western theme, located a little more than a five-minute drive from Capitol Reef National Park. Facilities are extensive -- an indoor pool, hot tub, and fitness center -- and the hotel also features a well-regarded steakhouse and ample, high-quality hot breakfast buffet. The 50 spacious guest rooms have a muted and tasteful Western look, and all come with AC, flat-screen TVs with DirecTV, plus mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. Capitol Reef Resort is right at the entrance to Capital Reef and offers cabins, teepee, and covered wagon accommodations, but it doesn’t have an indoor pool and breakfast isn’t included in all bookings.

Best Western Plus Zion West Hotel
44 W 500 N

The Best Western Plus Zion West Hotel offers a good overall value for tourists who don’t mind driving 30 minutes to visit Zion National Park. The pet-friendly, lower-middle-range property is located in La Verkin, a peaceful small town with only a few restaurants. Opened in late 2014, the handsome chain hotel offers a free hot breakfast, outdoor pool/whirlpool, fitness center, laundry room, and free parking and Wi-Fi. Pets are welcome for a surcharge. Rooms are clean and well equipped with microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and lovely marble showers. Suites with sleeper sofas and whirlpool tubs are also available. Rates are lower than at many hotels in bustling Springdale (near Zion’s entrance), but the Majestic View Lodge just outside of Springdale is a good alternative with comparable rates and a steakhouse.

Majestic View Lodge
2400 Zion Park Boulevard

As the name suggests, the mid-range, 72-room Majestic View Lodge overlooks the jaw-dropping sandstone cliffs that define southern Utah. Scenic views can be had from the seasonal outdoor pool and year-round hot tub, as well as most of the spacious rooms, which feature metal artwork, pine details, and balconies or patios. Adding to the Southwestern setting are log-cabin interiors and taxidermied animals, including those in hotel's museum, steakhouse, and gift shop. The hotel is an eight-minute drive from Zion National Park's entrance, but the hotel's location -- unlike the more central Cliffrose Lodge & Gardens -- is not within walking distance of Springdale's restaurants and shops.

Goulding's Lodge & Campground
1000 Main Street

Located in the heart of Monument Valley, the lower-middle-range Goulding’s Lodge & Campground attracts people from around the world who come to marvel at the stunning views. The filming site of many classic Western movies, the complex has plenty of features for a comfortable stay, including a full-service restaurant, two pools, a movie theater, and grocery store. Lodging options vary, but are clean and well-maintained across the board, ranging from standard lodge rooms to two-bedroom cottages and apartments with fully equipped kitchens with Keurig coffeemakers. Rates can spike during peak season, when it can fill up. The closest alternative is the mid-range View Hotel near the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park Visitors Center, but it also sells out frequently.

Silver King Hotel
1485 Empire Ave

This mid-range option in the expensive resort town of Park City features suites and condos, each with a kitchen, laundry facilities, a flat-screen TV, and a fireplace. Because condos are privately owned, the decor and quality of the kitchen appliances varies from room to room, but many have kitschy decor (for example, this western-themed bedspread). The indoor/outdoor pool and game room are nice for families, but concierge service is available only during the winter; be prepared to make your own arrangements during the off-season.

Canyons Boutique Hotel - A Canyons Collection Property
190 N 300 W

The tiny tourist town of Kanab isn’t known for its high-end hotels, but the 28-room, upper-middle-range Canyons Boutique Hotel is perhaps the town’s nicest option. In 2010, this hotel updated its rooms and added a stylish restaurant. Rooms are traditionally elegant and inviting, with four-poster beds, flat-screen TVs, patterned carpets and wallpaper, and coffeemakers; some upgraded rooms have fireplaces and separate soaking tubs. Nice freebies include a breakfast buffet and use of cruiser bikes for jaunts into town. The hotel lacks amenities such as a spa and fitness center but there’s a small pool that guests can use at the hotel’s adjacent sister property. Those seeking a more modern vibe with an on-site pool might enjoy the nearby Quail Park Lodge.

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Moab
1515 Hwy 191 North

The lower-middle-range Holiday Inn Express & Suites Moab is a modern chain hotel positioned between downtown Moab and Arches National Park. It’s a peaceful setting, but somewhat isolated as it's not within reasonable walking distance to downtown and its restaurants. It makes a good base for tourists exploring the national parks, however, with a good amenities package that features a (seasonal) heated outdoor pool with a waterfall feature, two whirlpools, fitness center, laundry room, free Wi-Fi, and free hot breakfast. Rooms are clean, spacious, and nicely equipped with microwaves, mini-fridges, and Keurig coffeemakers. Rates are competitive but like those at other Moab hotels, they spike in peak season. Another attractive option in the heart of downtown, with comparable rates and amenities, is the lower-middle-range Comfort Suites.

Hampton Inn & Suites Springdale
1127 Zion Park Boulevard

The 90-room, two-and-a-half-pearl Hampton Inn & Suites Springdale Zion National offers clean, comfortable and nicely decorated rooms with microwaves near Zion National Park. The park’s free shuttle stops right outside the hotel, and there's a free hot breakfast, a fitness center, and a large, heated outdoor pool. However, rates can be high for a Hampton Inn, especially during peak season, and the hotel often is full during those times. A viable alternative that might offer slightly lower rates is the La Quinta Inn & Suites at Zion Park/Springdale.

Best Western Coral Hills
125 East St. George Blvd.

The 98-room Best Western Coral Hills is a value roadside property in St. George’s historic district. A heated pool, hot tub, and kiddy pool can be found by the parking lot, which large enough for RVs and buses; there is also an indoor pool and hot tub. A hot complimentary breakfast is served daily, and it can get quite crowded with guests. There’s also a small gym and putting green. Comfy brown furnishings fill rooms that feature mini-fridges and microwaves, and Honeymoon Suites have fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. Some also have balconies, but views don’t compare to the desert vistas at the Inn on the Cliff.
