Hampton Inn Gatlinburg
967 Parkway

The two-and-a-half-pearl Hampton Inn Gatlinburg is a solid choice for travelers seeking comfortable accommodations in downtown Gatlinburg, but it's situated at the far end of the main drag. Set on a picturesque creek, the Hampton features attractive amenities including a free hot breakfast, outdoor pool, fitness center, and free parking and Wi-Fi, though the pool and gym are small. Its 97 guest rooms are pleasant and well-maintained, but decor is a touch dated. All come nicely equipped with balconies, microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers, but units are dark and a bit small by Hampton standards. Travelers looking for a more modern stay with a restaurant and bar can consider the nearby Hilton Garden Inn Gatlinburg Downtown, but rates don’t include breakfast.

Loews Philadelphia Hotel
1200 Market Street

The Loews Philadelphia Hotel occupies a historic 1932 bank building that's considered America’s first modern skyscraper. The upscale hotel features original and restored architectural features, stylish Art Deco decor, a rustic American restaurant, a well-stocked lobby bar, a bright modern gym, and a heated indoor lap pool, not to mention over 47,000 square feet of stylish meeting and event space. The hotel’s 581 rooms and suites are comfortable and spacious, though they aren't quite as fashionable as public spaces. Still, high-end room amenities abound, like Keurig coffeemakers, minibars, LED TVs, and bathrobes. Plus, some upgraded rooms feature unparalleled city views. Kids, teens, and pets are welcomed with special treats, and the hotel offers concierge service and 24-hour room service. The Center City location is exceptional, but upscale alternatives abound in the area, like the opulent Hyatt at The Bellevue.

Essex House
1001 Collins Ave.

The 80-room Essex House Hotel is a bastion of Art Deco architecture and decor — so much so that groups of tourists regularly tramp through the lobby on guided tours. And that's not the only hubbub that disrupts this so-called "oasis of calm." The party at the adjacent Clevelander often continues into the wee hours, and the noise keeps some guests awake. On the plus side, there's a tiny pool in a lush, tropical courtyard, a feature that many South Beach hotels lack. Generous freebies include a basic continental breakfast, happy hour cocktails, and fresh towels to use at the beach across the street. Considering the location in the heart of South Beach, this hotel is a terrific value.

Marseilles Hotel
1741 Collins Ave

The 111-room Marseilles Hotel is a contemporary, upper-middle-range property with an excellent location on Collins Avenue, providing direct access to the beautiful beach. Bright rooms have pops of fun color, coffeemakers, and electronic safes, though they lack mini-fridges and only a few come with small balconies. While the beach is the main selling point, a good-sized outdoor pool with ample seating, daily free happy hours ($1 tip requested), and casual outdoor cafe are welcome features. Like most hotels in Miami, a resort fee covers Wi-Fi, beach loungers and an umbrella, and use of a business center. A tiny gym in the basement is available. Overall, this is an average pick for South Beach, with little that makes it stand out. It's worth comparing rates with the nearby Shelborne South Beach, which has more impressive rooms and a spa.

The Inn On The River
2492 Parkway

One of the more budget-friendly Pigeon Forge options, the Inn On The River has some of the best river views and access in town. Two pools, picnic areas, and a walking trail along the river make it popular with families and couples. Its central location is also very convenient for tourists, with attractions right across the street or within a short drive or trolley ride. The 128 spacious rooms have maple furniture and conveniences like mini-fridges and Keurig coffeemakers. Half of the rooms feature private balconies overlooking the river. The Best Western Plaza Inn down the Parkway offers similar amenities closer to Dollywood for comparable rates.

Blue Dolphin Cottages
4227 W Gulf Dr

The nine-unit Blue Dolphin Cottages is an ideal mid-range choice for couples and families who want a quiet, no-fuss, beachside location with self-catering facilities. Most of the rooms and apartments here have kitchens, and all come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and private patios. The grounds are covered with tropical plants and colorful flowers, and a free breakfast of baked goods and fresh fruit is served every morning. The Blue Dolphin is not a place for partiers, as it's in a quiet part of town, and the use of artificial light is restricted during sea turtle hatching season.

The Inn at Round Barn Farm
1661 E Warren Rd

The Inn at the Round Barn Farm has a serene location with more than 245 acres of rolling green hills in every direction. It has a decidedly romantic ambiance, with rooms that have Jacuzzi tubs and/or working fireplaces. Unfortunately, bathrooms are small throughout, and many rooms have showers only. Having a small indoor pool and fitness center (though technically it's only a few cardio machines) is a true B&B rarity in these parts, but the real draws here are the peaceful ambiance, romantic and cozy experience, incredible views, and fresh air.

The Tides South Beach
1220 Ocean Dr

**This hotel sustained significant water damage during *Hurricane Irma* in September 2017 and is currently closed for repairs until the end of March 2018. We will update our review as soon as we have more information.** A beautifully designed hotel with pomp-free service at all levels -- from housekeeping to porters to private designated assistants -- The Tides brings rarely seen substance to the price tag. Though the hotel lacks direct beach access and the small pool is less than breathtaking, the huge, immaculate rooms more than compensate.

Sand Dunes Resort & Spa
201 74th Ave N

Sand Dunes Resort & Spa is a 417-room budget hotel on Myrtle Beach with a few resort-style amenities, like multiple pools, a lazy river, a kid’s splash and play area, and a spa. The dated rooms and public areas hold this property back from achieving its full potential. However, rates are reasonable and families in particular often appreciate freebies such as bike rentals and Wi-Fi.

Staybridge Suites Memphis - Poplar Ave East
1070 Ridge Lake Blvd

This mid-range Staybridge Suites has 114 apartment-style studio or one-bedroom suites with kitchens. The hotel is located in the East Memphis business district -- about a 20-minute drive to downtown -- and caters to guests on extended stays. Near the corporate headquarters of Kroger, Service Master, and International Paper, the hotel sees many business travelers, and the sober, earth-toned decor has a sharp, modern look. There is an outdoor pool, a small fitness center with cardio equipment and free weights, and free Wi-Fi. The evening social hours with free drinks and hors d'oeuvres is an especially nice touch at an otherwise straightforward chain outpost.
