This elegant upscale boutique hotel is located on a quiet cobblestone street, just a five-minute walk from the Champs Elysees. Its 74 guest rooms and suites are done up in a dark, distinguished style, featuring textured wallpaper and headboards inspired by the stage curtains of the Opera Garnier. In-room amenities include 32-inch flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, free Wi-Fi, well-stocked minibars, and electric kettles, while Deluxe Rooms and Suites add Nespresso machines. Juliet balconies overlook the street or inner courtyard in some rooms, but bathrooms tend to be compact. Breakfast is served (charged extra) in the lounge bar, but there's no on-site restaurant. Access to the spa and fitness room is free. Travelers might also want to check out the Hotel Apostrophe Rive Gauche, another chic boutique property that has an on-site restaurant and bar.

The mid-range Eiffel Saint Charles is a 33-room, tastefully decorated property near Paris' iconic Eiffel Tower. Though not all guarantee Eiffel Tower views, the small, albeit attractive, rooms come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and slick bathrooms. Unfortuantely, some past guests have reported noise issues due to thin walls. Limited features here include an all-day lobby bar and a dining room serving buffet breakfasts (fee). A bonus for Parisian hotels, the hotel has an elevator, although it lacks fitness facilities and a full restaurant. Pets stay for free and high-speed Wi-Fi is free throughout. For a more central and quieter setting, consider Villa Luxembourg, which also has larger rooms.

The 52-room, mid-range Villa Luxembourg is situated on the southernmost edge of the city’s 6th Arrondissement a five-minute walk from Luxembourg Gardens. While slightly outside the tourist area, the hotel is still near a plethora of shops, eateries, and metro stations, including one just a two-minute stroll from the hotel. Guests can travel to most Paris hotspots in about a half hour. The hotel decor is somewhat dated and uninspired with neutral colors and brown wood-wall accents. Apartment-style rooms, however, are fairly spacious for a Paris hotel in this price range. And they include air-conditioning, kitchenettes, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel has an on-site meeting room and a breakfast buffet for a fee, but few other property features. The nearby Hotel Lutetia has more up-to-date decor and on-site restaurants, but it's pricier. 

In a location that's convenient for both tourists and business travelers, the four-star Hotel Westminster provides luxury accommodations and a level of service comparable to its five-star neighbors, at lower rates. The historic hotel, with 80 air-conditioned guest rooms and 22 suites, is within walking distance to the Opera and the Place Vendome, the Place de la Concorde, the Louvre, and the Tuileries Gardens. Rooms are classically elegant and borrow design elements from the Louis XV and Regency periods. The hotel houses a Michelin one-star restaurant, Le Celadon, and the popular wood-paneled Duke's Bar, which offers live music. It also has a rooftop spa and small fitness center.

This 27-room, four-pearl boutique hotel happily marries the Latin Quarter's romantic side with its youthful Sorbonne spirit. Offering a très chic take on Lewis Carroll’s children’s tales, Le Lapin Blanc (or, in English, The White Rabbit) is notable for its clean-lined look and dreamy decor, all of which provide a welcome respite given the hotel’s lively location on Boulevard Saint-Michel. The guest rooms -- complete with custom wallpaper and Scandinavian-style furnishings -- could have been lifted from the pages of a decorating magazine, but the property is otherwise short on features. As an alternative, the nearby Select Hotel aims to fill a similar boutique niche, often at lower rates. But here decor isn't quite as polished.

The Best Western Hotel Ronceray Opera is a three-pearl chain that offers affordable accommodations in a prime central Paris location. It's housed in a 19th-century building, and for the most part, it's a business hotel, with several meeting rooms and a handsome cocktail bar that's open only for after-work drinks. Its 130 guest rooms look like little boardrooms, all well-equipped with AC, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and kettles, though there are larger options available. Some even have large furnished balconies, and courtyard-facing rooms on higher floors have views of Sacré-Cœur. There are consistent complaints about the free Wi-Fi being unreliable. Travelers looking for a more stylish stay nearby with similar rates can check out Hotel 34B - Astotel. 

Hotel Francois 1er is an upscale, 40-room boutique hotel located just two blocks from Paris' busy Champs-Élysées shopping street. Numerous antique-style pieces and classically-themed objets d'art combine to create an almost aristocratic ambiance here, which might not appeal to everyone's taste. In-room amenities, however, are more modernized, with free Wi-Fi for all. Everywhere is very expensive in this part of town, but the Francois 1er is one of the more reasonably-priced options in the neighborhood.

The popular three-pearl Bed & Breakfast Bouchardon in north-central Paris is located near scenic St. Martin Canal and Le Marais, a hyper-trendy neighborhood filled with boutiques and galleries. This property consists of one small en-suite guest room within an owner lived-in two-bedroom apartment, and can only accommodate couples and solo travelers. It's intimate and romantic, with superb breakfasts, gracious and friendly hosts, and a fabulous location for exploring the city from a home-like base, but guests should be aware that this small, comfortable, and beautifully decorated en-suite room must be booked several months in advance. For a slightly larger apartment-style stay within walking distance of the Seine and Notre Dame, check out Le Roi de Sicile, though rates will be higher.

Hotel Le Clement is a 28-room two-and-a-half-pearl property in the lively Saint-Germain area of Paris. It's about a two-minute walk to the Saint-Germain covered food market, a one-minute walk to the Mabillon metro stop, and a four-minute walk the the Eglise St. Sulpice. The hotel is classic and homey rather than sleek and chic -- it has a nice wood-paneled lounge, and an elevator, which is not a given in small Paris hotels. The traditionally styled rooms are on the small side, and include flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, private bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning but no coffeemakers. Junior Suites, with adjoining separate bedrooms, can accommodate up to three people. Travelers might want to also consider the nearby Hotel Saint Germain des Pres, which has more intricate decor but also higher rates. 

The 64-room Melia Royal Alma is an upper-middle-range hotel on a quiet side street on the Right Bank, within walking distance of the Champs-Elysees and Eiffel Tower. Rooms are small but stylishly decorated, outfitted with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, minibars, coffeemakers, and some with balconies. Amenities include a buffet breakfast (for a fee) served in an atrium and there's a cute indoor bar, plus room service is available. However, there's no gym or spa services. For more amenities, try the nearby Hotel California Paris Champs Elysees instead.
