The Lodge at Riverside
955 SE 7th St

The Lodge at Riverside is a three-pearl hotel in Grants Pass, Oregon with 33 rooms and suites. All rooms come with pillow-top beds and mini-fridges, and most have patios or balconies overlooking the adjacent Rogue River. There's a lovely seasonal outdoor pool, and other perks include free daily breakfast and wine receptions. There are three meeting rooms available, while the Taprock Events Center, which is just across the street, can accommodate up to 320 guests. However, there aren't enough rooms on-site to make this a good choice for a large corporate event. Overall, this is a solid mid-range option and provides good value for the money, but it's nothing fancy. Travelers could also consider the three-pearl BEST WESTERN Inn at the Rogue, which tends to have lower rates.

Ace Hotel Portland
1022 SW Stark St

The Ace Hotel Portland has as many quirky, bohemian characteristics as its sister properties in New York and Palm Springs. This boutique emphasizes style over space or luxury, featuring touches such as reclaimed school chairs, nightstands made out of books or suitcases, turntables, and stacks of vinyl records. Bathrooms have Malin+Goetz toiletries but are on the smaller side, with tiny exterior sinks and mirrors. Some rooms have shared bathrooms. Hotel highlights include a local, organic breakfast in the breakfast room, a great happy hour scene at the Clyde Common lobby bar, and coffee at the Stumptown Cafe. This pet-friendly hotel has a great central location for exploring Portland on foot.

Kimpton Hotel Monaco Portland
506 SW Washington

The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Portland is a top-notch hotel in Downtown Portland. Sure, some will find certain freebies a bit off-beat -- namely, the evening cocktail hour set up with brushes, canvases, and easels for guests to paint with; or the offer of a free companion goldfish for your room -- but this artsy hotel is decidedly upscale. Rooms are large, with bright, whimsical decor; local art is showcased on each floor; and Red Star Tavern hosts a popular happy hour.

Lodges at Cannon Beach
132 E Surfcrest Ave

One of the newer properties in Cannon Beach, the Lodges at Cannon Beach offers a total of eight two- and three-bedroom town homes, all with fully equipped kitchens, washer/dryers, and even separate garages. As a vacation rental complex, there's not much in terms of typical hotel amenities, and maid service is only once every three days. However, guests do get free passes to Cannon Beach Fitness. For those wanting a more traditional hotel-like stay, the Inn at Cannon Beach, right next door, is a better option and comes with free breakfast.

Paradise Suites
741 S Downing St

Travelers looking for a midrange getaway sans kids will appreciate the no-children policy at the four-room Paradise Suites & Rentals. Tucked away from the bustle of Seaside in a residential part of town, but only three blocks from the beach and about a half-mile from the main drag on Broadway, the property has a convenient location and zero features. Though the suites have a homey vibe, up to three bedrooms, and full kitchens, the hotel has a few elements that make it look like a throwback to another era, like wood paneling on the walls, tropical fish pattern bedspreads, and a vast collection of tapes to be played on the in-room VCRs.

Riverhouse on the Deschutes
3075 N. Business 97, Convention Center - 2850 NW Rippling River Ct

The three-pearl Riverhouse on the Deschutes has a picturesque setting on a narrow stretch of the Deschutes River, about 10 minutes north of downtown Bend. The lodge-like property is spread out on both sides of the river, connected by a covered bridge, and received a renovation that was completed in 2016. Highlights include a popular restaurant/bar, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center, and a large convention center. Its 221 spacious and contemporary guest rooms all have balconies or patios, and come with flat-screen TVs, Keurig coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and microwaves, but they're a bit dark and lack colorful, eye-catching accents. Many feature lovely river views, although others overlook parking lots. On-site parking and Wi-Fi throughout are free. Travelers look for a stay that's closer to downtown and includes breakfast -- which the Riverhouse does not -- can consider Hampton Inn & Suites Bend.

Out 'n' About Treehouse Treesort
300 Page Creek Rd

As the name suggests, the three-pearl Out 'n' About Treehouse Treesort is a forested playground comprised of 15 treehouses in a beautiful wooded area of southern Oregon. The treehouses range in size, sleeping from two to four people, and all are rustic and simply furnished. Some have their own kitchenettes and en-suite bathrooms. There's also an on-site zip-line course, and other features include a common kitchen where guests can prepare basic meals, a fire pit area, and a cozy lodge where a free breakfast is served every morning. While there's no denying the novelty of staying in a treehouse, this back-to-the-earth property is a far cry from a luxury vacation spot. Only the more expensive units have private en-suite bathrooms, and the treehouses aren't well soundproofed, which can be particularly problematic when loud groups are hanging out by the central fire pit. For a more traditional stay in the area, travelers might want to consider the Chateau at the Oregon Caves.

The Coho Oceanfront Lodge
1635 NW Harbor Ave

The three-pearl Coho Oceanfront Lodge is a low-key, 65-room resort overlooking the beach. Features include ocean-facing fire pits surrounded by Adirondack chairs, weekly wine tastings, movie rentals, cookies in the lobby, and in-room massages. There are also a breakfast cafe, hot tub, sauna, gym, and an indoor pool that’s for adults only at night. Most units offer oceanfront balconies, and some have kitchenettes, fireplaces, and/or bunk beds for kids. Although the property looks out over the beach, it's perched on a cliff and beach access is one block away. The Beachfront Manor Hotel is right on the sand, but it doesn’t have as many amenities.

Rivertide Suites Hotel
102 N Holladay Dr

With a location on the Necanicum River, a two-minute walk from downtown Seaside and one block from the convention center, Rivertide Suites is a good choice for both business and leisure travelers. The 70-room, all-suite property has the comforts of home -- like a seating area, kitchen, electric fireplace, and balcony in each room -- but the look is that of a corporate apartment. Features include a small fitness center and an indoor pool and hot tub. Continental breakfast and an evening manager's reception are both free. Travelers looking for more of a traditional hotel stay on the river will want to check out the River Inn at Seaside.

Inn at Seaside
441 2nd Ave

With a picturesque and convenient location, the Inn at Seaside attracts a mix of both families and convention goers. It's centrally located -- just off Highway 101, next to a convention center, and two blocks from the main drag of beach, with fun activities like bumper boats, factory outlets, and an aquarium in the immediate area. Rooms range in size and sleep up to eight at the largest; some have kitchens or kitchenettes. With free breakfast, cookies, Wi-Fi, and an indoor swimming pool, the three-pearl hotel is a good value for families on a budget -- but it does look a bit dated.
