La Villa des Orangers - Hôtel
6 rue Sidi Mimoun

Set within the walls of the Medina, steps to the lively Jemaa El Fna Square, the Relais & Chateaux affiliated Villa des Orangers is an intimate 27-room luxury boutique hotel with authentic Moroccan style. The riad's spacious rooms showcase the region's decor, incorporating saturated colors and textiles and antique wood furnishings. Private terraces offer glimpses of the Atlas Mountains, the Koutoubia Mosque, and the hotel's interior courtyards shaded by orange trees. Two pools, including one on the rooftop, attentive service, and a small spa add to the hotel's allure, but its lack of elevators and abundance of steep stairs might not appeal to everyone. Still, it's one of the top luxury options inside the Medina; Riad Farnatchi is one of the only riad-style properties that compares, but many will prefer the rich decor and generous freebies here.

Atlas Amadil Beach Aqua Sun
Chemin des Dunes

The 328-room Amadil Beach is a large, family-friendly hotel with a three-and-a-half-pearl rating and attractive all-inclusive packages. Its location opposite Agadir Beach is handy for accessing the hotel's private beach section, and on-site facilities include multiple pools, waterslides, adult and kids' entertainment, and both a la carte and buffet restaurants. Unfortunately, guests generally find food and evening entertainment mediocre. Additionally, a lovely spa has an indoor pool, Turkish bath, and massage rooms. Contemporary rooms are bright, albeit a bit bland, and outfitted with furnished balconies, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Note that in-room safes require a fee, and there are no kettles provided. It's worth considering the similar LTI Agadir Beach Club, which has slightly lower rates.

Riad Zahra
90 Amira Lalla Meryem, Quartier des Dunes

Located in Essaouira about five minutes from Morocco's coast, the upper-middle-range 23-room Riad Zahra Mogador appeals to surfers and sun worshippers who want to be near the beach. Rooms are simple but bright, with firm mattresses topped with traditional linens, and some units have terraces. The riad looks more like a hotel than many of the country's older guest houses, with tile floors and wrought-iron bannisters. Two restaurants serve Moroccan, international and Asian dishes, and breakfast is included. The outdoor pool has an accompanying bar. Travelers looking for a riad in Essaouira may want to also consider the comparably priced Riad Baladin, which is a little closer to town and a bit more rustic.

SENSIMAR Medina Gardens
Arset Djenan Lakhdar

The three-and-a-half-pearl Sensimar Medina Gardens is an adult-only hotel in central Marrakech. It has two pools, a spa, gym, and daily entertainment program, though activities are generally low quality. The hotel also provides all-inclusive meal plans and seven dining options on-site, serving everything from local to international cuisine. However, the food quality is also reportedly low. The 167 rooms are contemporary, with a romantic vibe and include stocked mini-fridges, kettles, and air-conditioning. For something more intimate, chic, and romantic, Zamzam Riad, which has a small spa and lovely free breakfast, may be a better alternative.

Atlas Essaouira & Spa
Boulevard Mohamed V

The Atlas Essaouira & Spa is an upscale property across the street from the beach and a 20-minute walk to the tourist-friendly old city. A modern, sophisticated choice for travelers seeking a mix of nature and culture, the property offers a large outdoor pool, three international restaurants, and a full-service spa with hammam. The 156 guest rooms are chic and serene, with minibars and safes, while suites with ocean-view balconies are also available. The well-kept grounds, and vast common areas decorated tastefully with Moroccan touches for a stylish scene. But front-desk service can be a bit frosty, the housekeeping and buffet breakfast inconsistent, and some rooms slightly worn. Wi-Fi is free and spotty throughout. Guests seeking a homier vibe, with close proximity to the beach, could try the Riad Zahra Mogador about a half-mile south.

Riad Amssaffah
Bab Taghzout Diour Saboun Amssafah,

The budget, 20-room Riad Amssaffah is situated within the old labyrinth of the Marrakech medina, just a 12-minute walk from the popular Jemaa el Fnaa square. Guests love the traditional Moroccan architecture and decor, but complain about wear-and-tear, lack of in-room amenities, and extra fees for things like air-conditioning and housekeeping. The hotel has a restaurant and bar, a rooftop terrace, and a central courtyard with a small plunge pool, but the terrace and pool area are not well kept. Like most riads, rooms lack TVs and phones, but they are also without safes, toiletries, and other basics. They do have mini-fridges, but the free Wi-Fi doesn't always work. There are plenty of alternatives in the area, but the price here is hard to beat, though Hotel Atlas, also in the medina, comes close.

Mogador Menzah Appart Hôtel
Avenue Mohammed VI

The Ryad Mogador Menzah is a mid-range apartment hotel situated about a 10-minute drive from Marrakech's medina. The hotel has 188 spacious, apartment-style studios and suites, all of which have stocked kitchenettes and balconies, but there's no in-room Wi-Fi and guests sometimes note plumbing or AC issues. There's a large central terrace with a pool and separate kids' pool, but it's not heated and its upkeep gets mixed reviews. The hotel also has a restaurant and spa offering a range of beauty treatments and massages, in addition to a hammam. Inconsistent service and wear-and-tear take this hotel down a notch, but it's adequately clean and fairly well priced considering the amenities. The Ryad Mogador Kasbah offers comparable digs, but it's also outside of the medina and not within walking distance of tourist sites.

Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech
Km 12 Route d'Amizmiz

Set in over 570 acres of landscaped gardens, the 134-room Fairmont Royal Palm is one of Marrakech’s most exclusive resorts. Its traditional Berber design blends seamlessly with the beautiful surroundings, and its interiors are some of the most stylish and elegant around. Large suites are decorated with contemporary handmade furniture, traditional Moroccan accents, and warm tones, and villas feature private heated pools, outdoor living areas, and butler service. The property is known for its beautiful 18-hole golf course, world-class spa, and massive outdoor pool, but it also features a lovely kids’ club and a wonderful fitness center with personal trainers and an indoor pool. The hotel’s three restaurants serve excellent food, but some may find prices a little too high. Travelers looking to stay in the city center may want to consider La Mamounia Marrakech.

Palais Sebban
43 Derb Moulay Abdellah Ben Hsseine, Quartier Laksour

The three-and-a-half-pearl, 25-room Palais Sebban is a restored riad in the Medina, is an eight-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fna and the souks. The hotel is decorated in traditional Moroccan style, from the tiled pool to the rooms, which feature air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and minibars, but no TVs. The courtyard area is a highlight, as is the secluded rooftop terrace, and the hotel also has a full-service spa with traditional hammam. A free Moroccan breakfast buffet is available each morning and can be served in the courtyard. We did spot some wear and a few dated spots, and the pool is small, but rates are reasonable for the Medina. Guests who want a bigger pool might try Les Borjs de la Kasbah, where rates are cheaper and airport transfers are free.

Fellah Hotel
KM 13 Route de l'Ourika, Tassoultante

This four-pearl, 69-room property has a quirky, artsy vibe and tranquil out-of-town setting. Made up of a sprawling collection of desert villas offering stunning views of the Atlas Mountains, the style is eco-friendly and boutique-inspired. It's a 20-minute drive from the medina, making it an ideal getaway for families and couples. Decor is contemporary, with playful, unconventional artwork throughout the property. Chic guest rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and furnished balconies or terraces. The hotel has an impressive Kids' Club, full-service spa, large outdoor pool, and a Moroccan restaurant serving a breakfast buffet. It also has a fitness center, petting zoo, and huge library. Travelers looking for a more conventional hotel should try the SENTIDO Kenzi Menara, which adds a free shuttle service to the city.
