Best Western Plus Kansas City Airport-Kci East
11130 N Ambassador Dr

The 79-room Best Western Plus Kansas City Airport-KCI East is ideal for travelers seeking budget accommodations within a short drive of Kansas City International Airport. The indoor pool and business facilities are nice features, though it’s the free local/airport shuttle service and breakfast buffet that make a stay at this hotel especially convenient. The microwaves and mini-fridges in the comfortable -- if basic -- guest rooms are helpful during longer stays. Travelers could also consider the nearby Hyatt Place Kansas City Airport, a mid-range, slightly pricier property with a cocktail bar and 24-hour room service.

Hotel Phillips Kansas City, Curio Collection by Hilton
106 W 12th St

Right next to Kansas City’s happening Power & Light district, the historic Hotel Phillips is an upscale property dating back to 1931 that features opulent interiors full of original Art Deco glamour. Its 217 rooms are modern and stylish, outfitted with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, though some guests have complained about cleanliness issues and uncomfortable beds. The hotel displays work by local artists and hosts an artist-in-residence program, plus local musicians give free live shows several times a week. Amenities include a restaurant and bar, event space, and a small fitness center, but the pricey valet parking garners complaints from guests. Travelers might also want to consider the comparable Raphael Hotel, which has similar features like nightly live music.

Sheraton Westport Plaza Hotel St. Louis
900 Westport Plaza

The Sheraton Westport Plaza Hotel is a business-friendly upper-middle-range chain hotel about a 20-minute drive from downtown St. Louis. It's attached to The Westport Plaza, a 42-acre complex of retail and office space on the outskirts of the city. The aging hotel completed a multimillion dollar renovation in 2011 and now has contemporary decor throughout. The 210 rooms are generic, with white duvets, flat-screen TVs, and coffeemakers. Guests can dine at the hotel's on-site restaurants or at casual eateries in Westport Plaza; other options will require a drive. Parking is free, but there's a fee for in-room Wi-Fi.

Hyatt Place Kansas City Airport
7600 NW 97th Ter

The 134-room Hyatt Place Kansas City Airport hotel is a three-pearl chain property that attracts leisure and business travelers seeking proximity to the airport. A variety of free amenities are offered here, including a free breakfast buffet and shuttle service (both airport and local area shuttle), while on-site features include an outdoor pool, fitness center, and a bar serving cocktails and Starbucks coffee. Contemporary guest rooms have bland, chain-like decor, but are outfitted with a range of modern conveniences including mini-fridges, large flat-screen TVs, and pullout sofas. Travelers seeking something near the airport might want to compare rates with the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Kansas City Airport.

Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City
3200 Ameristar Dr

A destination in it own right, this enormous, three-and-a-half-pearl hotel is home to one of the largest casinos in Missouri, though it's seen better days. Spacious rooms have huge TVs and select suites feature whirlpool tubs, but the overall look is slightly dated, and there are cleanliness and maintenance issues throughout. With a mall-like atmosphere, there are nine restaurants throughout, plus live entertainment venues, an 18-screen movie theater, an arcade, and conference facilities. However, there's no fitness center or pool, and the hotel is about 20 minutes outside of Kansas City. Those wanting something more central and stylish (but without a casino) may prefer the similarly priced Holiday Inn Aladdin.

Lodge of the Ozarks
3431 W 76 Country Blvd

The Lodge of the Ozarks is a great value considering its central location in Branson, as well as its modern common areas -- the lobby and lounge are filled with beautiful wood furnishings. All rooms are renovated, with lodge-style decor, granite countertops, and mini-fridges. Some also have jetted tubs. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the property, along with concierge services and free breakfast. Additionally, the hotel has an indoor pool, fitness center, and sun deck. The hotel serves a free hot breakfast.

Quality Inn West
3601 Shepherd of the Hills Expy

Located at the intersection of Highway 76 (Branson's main drag) and Shepherd of the Hills Expressway, the family-run Quality Inn West is a pleasant budget hotel in a prime location for accessing Branson's sights and attractions. The hotel itself is pretty standard for a hotel of its caliber, both in terms of decor and amenities: there’s an indoor pool with a hot tub, as well as on-site laundry facilities and a small picnic area. Everything is spotlessly clean, though, and the free breakfast has hot and cold options, including donuts. Decor throughout is generic, without frills, but rooms each have a mini-fridge and microwave. Comfort Inn and Suites is just five minutes up the road, has similar rates, and an equally pleasant indoor pool.

Comfort Inn & Suites
5150 N Gretna Rd

This Comfort Inn & Suites is a family-run, family-friendly budget hotel with 102 air-conditioned rooms in a quiet area in the Branson Theater District. The hotel is clean, although the generic, chain-style decor is a bit bland and without frills. An indoor pool area is also home to a hot tub, and the hotel has laundry facilities and an outdoor picnic area with a walking trail. The free breakfast has both hot and cold options. Rooms are pretty standard for this level of hotel, but the mini-fridge and microwave in each mean guests can be self-sufficient. Quality Inn West is just five minutes up the road, and has similar rates an equally well-maintained indoor pool so it's worth considering as well.

Welk Resorts Branson Hotel
1984 State Highway 165

Set amid the scenic Ozark Mountains just a short drive from central Branson, the Welk Resort Branson is a family-friendly, upper-mid-range resort with a wealth of fun activities and amenities. Chief among these are the exceptional indoor/outdoor water park and outdoor mini-golf course. There’s also free Wi-Fi, a game room, huge theater with musical acts, and popular on-site restaurant. Rooms are modern, if a bit boring, with features like granite countertops and mini-fridges. Note that the resort also operates a timeshare; therefore, pitches can be annoying, and the resort can get a bit loud with so many kids running around.

Chateau on the Lake Resort Spa & Convention Center
415 North State Highway 265

Set amid rural, wooded beauty, the Chateau on the Lake Resort & Spa is a full-service resort set just outside Branson, overlooking Table Rock Lake and the Ozark Mountains. Major attractions, shops, hiking trails, and restaurants are all within a 15-minute drive, but the resort offers plenty of on-site activities, too, from water sports and fishing to tennis and screenings at the on-site movie theater. The spa and fine-dining Chateau Grille are can't-miss highlights. There is also a kids’ club and outdoor playground open in the spring and summer. Rooms are decorated with elegant decor that nonetheless feels chain-like; however, the Serta Perfect Sleeper mattresses are a welcome touch, as are the jetted tubs, full-sized refrigerators, and robes in suites. Many rooms have private balconies, some with lake or mountain views. It's worth noting that some of the restaurants are only open seasonally.
