The Oberoi, Dubai
Business Bay, Dubai, Emirate of Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The 252-room luxury Oberoi is located in Business Bay, attracting primarily corporate travelers or tourists especially interested in taking the free shuttle to Dubai Mall. While the design is a bit generic, everything is high-end and well-maintained, from the lovely spa and large outdoor pool, to the 24-hour gym and 27th-floor lounge. The spacious, well-appointed rooms come with all the amenities expected of a luxury hotel, including sitting areas, Nespresso machines, stand-alone tubs and separate showers, and free Wi-Fi. Multiple on-site dining options, particularly the Indian restaurant Ananta, receive excellent reviews, and all rates include a varied breakfast buffet. Unfortunately, some guests have complained of noise reaching rooms and an awkward hotel entrance that causes traffic jams and doesn't allow for foot approaches. For a luxury stay closer to downtown, consider the similarly priced Taj Dubai.

The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa
Sas Al Nakhl, Khalifa City 'A', Abu Dhabi, Emirate of Abu Dhabi 126 797, United Arab Emirates

Everything in Abu Dhabi seems to be a bit bigger, and the luxury Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort is no exception. Pretty much next door to the 27-hole Abu Dhabi Golf Club, this resort has three restaurants and bars, two pools, a sleek spa and gym, and free access to Saadiyat Beach Club -- although it's a 30-minute cab ride away. Even the smallest of the hotel’s 172 rooms are huge and come with private terraces, king-sized beds, lounge areas, and Nespresso coffeemakers. However, the hotel is a fair distance away from downtown Abu Dhabi, so guests who aren’t interested in golfing should consider the centrally located and beachfront Shangri-La Hotel.

Architecturally striking, under an enormous, futuristic LED canopy, the Viceroy is the poshest hotel on Yas Island, with two rooftop infinity pools, a spa, 11 restaurants and bars, and two nightclubs. Rooms are luxe and minimalist, with marina or track views, and stylish bathrooms.

Le Meridien Abu Dhabi
Al meena 2nd St, Tourist Club Area, Abu Dhabi, Emirate of Abu Dhabi 46066, United Arab Emirates

The 234-room Le Meridien Abu Dhabi is an upscale, beachfront hotel right by Abu Dhabi Mall, on the eastern end of downtown. It's showing some age and has some dated decor, but traditional Arabian accents are charming and features are extensive. Rooms vary between old-fashioned and modern, but all have minibars, kettles, and flat-screen TVs, and some add furnished balconies. A private beach and outdoor pools are popular spots fo relax, and guests can make use of an expansive spa and extensive dining includes Italian, Greek, and buffet eateries. On the downside, private parties can get loud, free Wi-Fi is slow, and the location  isn't very walkable. Resort-seekers might also want to consider The Khalidiya Palace, which is more modern and has tons of family-friendly features.

Ghaya Grand Hotel
International Media Production Zone, near Meaisem City Center, Dubai, Emirate of Dubai 39236, United Arab Emirates

The upscale Ghaya Grand Hotel is a contemporary apartment-style property located next to Dubai Sports City, a 22-minute drive from Downtown. The hotel occupies two towers, which are separated by a swimming pool with adjacent kiddy pool. The 765 rooms here are spacious, and all have minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free toiletries. Apartments add kitchens, living spaces, and washer/dryers. Additional on-site amenities consist of a full-service spa and well-equipped gym, and dining options such as an all-day buffet restaurant, lobby lounge for fast fare, and a poolside bar. Be aware that like many hotels in Dubai, alcohol is not served here. Free shuttles are provided to some popular tourist spots. This is a good value for travelers needing to be in the area, but those who want to be closer to Palm Jumeirah should consider Fairmont The Palm

Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi
Qaryat Al Beri Complex, Between the bridges, Abu Dhabi, Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

The 301-room upscale Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, is a value option located amid a cluster of five-star hotels in Abu Dhabi's Between the Bridges area, on the shores of beautiful Maqtaa Creek. Less lavish than its neighbors, the Traders offers comfort and space, as well as signing privileges at the fancier Shangri-La Hotel, with whom it shares a private beach. The Traders is well located for sightseeing. Rooms are clean, spacious, and modern.

Roda Amwaj Suites
Amwaj Al Sufouh Rd 71, Dubai, Emirate of Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Roda Amwaj Suites is a solid choice for an apartment-hotel in Dubai's popular Jumeirah Beach Residence district. The 222 upscale units are located just behind The Walk, a stretch of cafes and restaurants next to the beach. However, they're a 30- to 40-minute drive to the financial district and sights like the Burj Khalifa. Apartments are spacious and modern, with a simple, homey style plus full kitchens and multiple bedrooms. While they are great for long-stay business travelers, vacationing families are also in luck, as walks to the beach and touristy attractions are easy. For a stay with a bit more elegant polish, Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach has a private beach, tennis courts, and chicer rooms at just slightly higher rates. However, rooms there will lack kitchens.
