AzuLine Hotel-Apartamento Rosamar
Calle de Huelva 14-18, Cala de Bou

The 110-room Aparthotel Rosamar is a mid-range property located in the quiet San Antonio Bay, a five-minute walk from Pinet beach. One of the hotel's main draws is its all-inclusive option, which covers decent meals and a good selection of drinks. The main downside is most of the hotel overlooks some indefinitely half-finished buildings. On-site entertainment is lively, though, and a large outdoor pool and indoor game room provide activities for families. Most of the rooms have cooking facilities and balconies, in addition to their dated decor. If the view is a deal-breaker, check rates at the Bellamar Hotel for uninterrupted sea vistas.

Vilanova Park
Ctra Arboc BV-2115, Km 2,5

Vilanova Park is a quiet and serene campground and activity center where visitors come to camp in their own motor homes and tents, or rent a bungalow. It certainly isn't luxurious (and showers are tiny), but families in search of clean, comfortable, and reasonably-priced accommodations and an endless offering of things to do will be pleased. There's an on-site supermarket, bar and restaurant, all with reasonable prices, but those looking for things to do outside the grounds will be happy with the bus service to Barcelona and to the village of Vilanova -- with a beach, bars, restaurants, and shops --that leaves from just outside the resort gates.

Atenea Park Suites Apartaments
Juan Sebastian Elcano No 4

Atenea Park Suites Apartaments is a three-pearl hotel in the coastal town of Vilanova i la Geltru, only a three-minute walk to Ribes Roges Beach. There are plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance, and it's a 55-minute drive into Barcelona. The 102 apartments are modern with minimalist decor, air-conditioning, fully-equipped kitchenettes, and free Wi-Fi. Mediterranean cuisine is available at the restaurant, along with a full buffet breakfast (though it's not included in room rates). Kid-friendly services include a shallow kids' pool, special kids' menus, babysitting services, and a playground. Another kid-friendly option in the area is Vilanova Park, offering both camping and bungalow accommodations as well as three swimming pools and activities.

Camping Castell Montgri
Ctra. Torroella-Estartit, Km. 4,700

Castell Montgrí is a huge, self-contained, family-friendly campsite located near beaches and historic towns. There’s almost anything guests can dream of here, from a water park to fitness classes to sunscreen dispersers and even a farm. The place is so big that the main pool has a maximum capacity of 300 people -- and there are two more pools on-site. With myriad dining and drinking options, activities for all ages, and several types of accommodations -- from fully equipped mobile homes to basic tents with shared bathrooms -- the place is always bustling and lively. But maybe a little too much so for some, with guests complaining about loud neighbors and lack of privacy. Plus, there are fees for every extra, including poolside loungers.

The St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort
Carretera Palma-Andratx 19, Costa d'en Blanes

There isn't much to fault with this impeccably maintained luxury hotel, but there isn't much to rave about either. Its location, though picturesque, doesn't make it optimally positioned for much other than dining at the hotel, lounging at the pool, or golfing. Guest rooms have terraces and modern decor, including French writing desks and splashy modern artwork setting off the mostly beige color scheme. For many travelers this may be plenty, but in a place like Mallorca, it's unfortunate to have to drive to a good beach seeing as how they're nearly ubiquitous. The lush gardens, pools, multiple alfresco dining options, and sprawling grounds do make the 130-room St. Regis Mardavall a very tranquil and airy place to relax, though the best of what Mallorca has to offer definitely lies beyond the hotel's gates.

NH Parla
Avenida Leguario 2, Leguario

The NH Parla is a clean, mid-range modern business hotel outside Madrid with low rates, convenient mostly for those who need to be in the Parla neighborhood. Although there are a few restaurants and shops within walking distance, you definitely need a rental car to get around; Madrid is about a 30-minute drive, or 50-minute bus ride, away and most attractions are about a 20-minute drive from the hotel. The hotel is contemporary, but only includes the essentials. Rooms are bland, with minimal design, but bathrooms are modern and a good size. There's free breakfast and parking, but the breakfast hours are early, convenient mostly for business travelers. The hotel is pet-friendly and children under 11 can stay for free. There’s also free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour front desk.

Caleia Mar Menor Golf & Spa Resort
Calle Ceiba s/n, Mar Menor Golf Resort

With a golf course and a slew of other outdoor features, this upscale resort caters to a varied mix of travelers. There are both indoor and outdoor pools, spa facilities, a fitness center, tennis courts, and a kids' club, plus several dining options -- but the food gets mixed reviews. All guest rooms have private balconies or terraces, a solid set of amenities, and sleek bathrooms with jetted tubs and separate showers. The spaces are a bit dated, however, and guests also complain of maintenance issues. Overall, it doesn't live up to its self professed five-pearl status, but it's a solid choice for those seeking a golf holiday. For a more contemporary feel, check out the comparable La Manga Club Principe Felipe.

R2 Bahia Playa Hotel & Spa
Avenida las Palmeras s/n

Right on the promenade, by a sand and shingle beach, the four-pearl R2 Bahia Playa offers modern digs in the quiet fishing village of Tarajalejo. This adult-only hotel has two outdoor swimming pools, a rooftop spa, and a large buffet restaurant with all-inclusive or half board options. The 163 rooms are modern and include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. All units have balconies with garden or ocean views. The lobby has a large bar and lounge area, and there is evening entertainment in the basement club which includes casino nights and discos. Travelers looking for a cheaper adult-only hotel could compare rates with the KN Matas Blancas in Costa Calma -- but it's not as close to the beach.

Pierre & Vacances Village Fuerteventura Origo Mare
Carretera Majanicho, 100

This four-pearl holiday village is a popular choice for families and mature travelers. The 323 villas are spacious and quiet, and each comes with its own kitchen and private terrace, but no Wi-Fi. Several pools sit throughout the resort and plenty of water-sports activities are on offer, including the popular Crater Park water park for kids. Food is served on an all-inclusive or half board basis at the buffet restaurant, sports bar, or pool bar. Extensive sports facilities include two tennis courts, mini-golf, a gym, and bike rentals. It's less than a five-minute walk to a nearby surfing spot, but the resort itself is not on the beach. The laid-back atmosphere is a major draw here, but guests preferring a family-friendly hotel closer to civilization might consider Labranda Corralejo Village instead.
