Seaside Inn
1004 Ocean Blvd

Just 20 minutes from downtown Charleston, the Seaside Inn is a two-and-a-half pearl hotel on the beach near other reasonably priced, relaxed properties. There are microwaves and mini-fridges in the 50 rooms and views of the sea from some units. But some guests complain of a musty smell in the rooms (common in coastal areas of high humidity). The three-story property has limited amenities, but for couples or families with older children for whom the beach is the goal, the Seaside Inn strikes the right notes of location and practicality. Travelers may want to compare rates and amenities at the Palms Oceanfront Hotel

Sandy Beach Resort
201 S Ocean Blvd

The Sandy Beach Resort is a 228-room condo-style hotel with an excellent location just south of Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, next to the Family Kingdom Amusement Park. Although the hotel advertises itself as an "ultra-luxury" resort, it's more of a mid-range property, lacking an on-site restaurant and luxury amenities. Still, the rooms are among the nicest for the price in Myrtle Beach, with modern bedding and, in many, updated kitchens -- though the Magnolia Tower could use a bit of TLC. Guests may also want compare rates with the Anderson Ocean Club, though it's a bit farther from the boardwalk action.

Staybridge Suites
303 Fantasy Harbour Blvd

Staybridge Suites is three-pearl hotel with a chain-style decor that appeals to budget-conscious guests who don’t feel the need to be right on Myrtle Beach. The location is just a 12-minute drive from the beach and most attractions, and with a pool and hot tub on-site guests can still enjoy the South Carolina sun. The 119 suites are equipped with kitchenettes for convenient, long-term stays. A free hot breakfast buffet is offered which is a nice bonus. Note that housekeeping isn't provided on weekends. Travelers could also consider The Strand A Boutique Resort, which is a short walk from the beach and has a restaurant on-site.

The Mermaid Inn
5400 N Ocean Blvd

For guests looking for an affordable pet-friendly hotel in Myrtle Beach, the Mermaid Inn offers a low-key beach experience without a lot of amenities. Renovated in 2013, the 57 rooms are cute and colorful and have mini-fridges and microwaves, but the bathrooms need renovations and there have been complaints of housekeeping issues. Amenities include an outdoor pool with a nice deck, but there's no restaurant or fitness center. Guests traveling without pets who are willing to spend a little more may want to check out the Crown Reef at South Beach Resort, a beachfront hotel with family-friendly amenities, including two waterslides, a lazy river, and an indoor splash area.
