Magi House Relais
Via Padre Reginaldo Giuliani 56

The 10-room Magi House Relais is a quiet and modern mid-range property with a central location in Sorrento. Split between Classic Rooms, Suites, and Apartments, rooms vary, though all have attractive decor, rainfall showers, and flat-screen TVs. Some add kitchenettes with microwaves, furnished terraces, and whirlpools. Those with mobility issues should be aware that there is no elevator on-site. Amenities here are limited to free Wi-Fi and breakfasts (free for some) with homemade cakes, served either on the lovely rooftop terrace or in a reading room with all-day tea and cookies. This is a great pick for travelers who plan on spending most of their time off-site, but those looking for more hotel amenities should consider Hotel Plaza, which has an infinity pool, rooftop bar, and fitness center.

Comfort Hotel Gardenia Sorrento Coast
Corso Italia 258

The 27-room Comfort Hotel Gardenia Sorrento Coast is a three-pearl boutique property that offers clean, tastefully decorated rooms just outside of Sorrento’s city center. Its simple rooms have flat-screen TVs and minibars, though bathrooms are small and outfitted with tiny showers. Many rooms and public spaces offer fantastic views of the bay and Mount Vesuvius, and there's also a lovely outdoor pool with a poolside bar and plenty of sun loungers (shared with the next door hotel). A hot breakfast buffet adds value to already attractive rates, and private parking is a big plus. While a solid choice, there are many comparable options nearby worth considering, like the boutique Hotel Sorrento City, which is closer to the city center.

Cesare Augusto
Via Degli Aranci 108

Cesare Augusto is a three-and-a-half pearl, sixties-era hotel set on busy road just on the edge of Sorrento's charming historic center. Taking center stage is its rooftop terrace with narrow swimming pool and spectacular views that include Mount Vesuvius. Less impressive are the 120 guest rooms that, like most of the property, feel dated and in need of a makeover. Some are also prone to street noise, though a few top-floor room are treated to sea views. Still, they're tidy and comfortable, and all have furnished balconies, AC, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, safes, and free Wi-Fi. The leafy gardens also make for a pleasant oasis of greenery, though for a something a little more 21st century the Hotel Plaza is around the same price and closer to the city center.

Villa Oriana Relais
Via Privata Rubinacci 1

Surrounded by citrus groves and on a hillside overlooking the Bay of Naples, the three-pearl Villa Oriana Relais is a family-run hotel that's one of the top-rated in Naples. It offers an amazing free breakfast, great hospitality, and a gorgeous rooftop sundeck with hot tub. The six spacious rooms have antique decor, flat-screen TVs, kettles, mini-fridges, and furnished terraces -- some with bay views. However, dinner isn't served here, and the hotel lacks a pool, gym, and spa. The property is popular with both international travelers and Italians, and it's ideal for those seeking a relaxing holiday, versus a sightseeing-heavy one where a location in the center of Sorrento would be better. Tourists wanting to be closer to the action might prefer Maison Tofani, a four-pearl boutique in the heart of the city, though it lacks sea views.

Palazzo Jannuzzi Relais
Piazza Torquato Tasso 1

The Palazzo Jannuzzi Relais is a charming upscale boutique hotel with just 12 rooms on the main plaza in Sorrento. It's within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and attractions, and public transportation by boat, train, or bus is nearby as well. Rooms are spacious and sharp, and some have nice balconies overlooking the square. The breakfast offerings are excellent and include hot and cold options plus homemade pastries and desserts, and dining outside on the beautiful terrace can be a special treat. Travelers looking for more amenities such as a pool and fitness center could check out the nearby Hotel Plaza, though rooms don't have as much character.

Grand Hotel President
Via Parisi 4

The Grand Hotel President is outside the Sorrento city center, with a hilltop setting providing sweeping views of the city and Gulf of Naples from the swimming pool, rooftop terrace, bars, restaurant, and many of the rooms. In addition to the pool and its adjacent hydro-massage tub, the hotel offers an indoor hot tub, fitness room, sauna, steam room, and massage treatments (for a fee). Rooms are fairly simple but offer free Wi-Fi and flat-panel TVs. Some have balconies with sea views. A stay at the Grand Hotel is suitable for travelers who want a quiet location away from the hubbub of central Sorrento. The hotel does have a free shuttle service to Sorrento.

Maison Kalea
Via Santa Lucia 4

The Maison Kalea Hotel is a tiny, three-pearl hotel with pleasant, slightly quirky decor. It's located about a 15-minute walk from the sea, but central Sorrento's restaurants, shops, and sights are all within 10 minutes on foot. Features include a pretty courtyard with sun loungers, free hot breakfast with cooked-to-order eggs and Italian pastries, and Wi-Fi throughout. The six guest rooms have a more traditional, charming look with modern accents, and all come with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and electric kettles, and some have balconies. Travelers looking for a hotel that's closer to the water can consider Palazzo Tasso, but rooms are smaller and rates can run higher.

Hilton Sorrento Palace
Via S. Antonio 13

The 341-room Hilton Sorrento Palace is an upscale property with a mix of dated and contemporary units, set a 10-minute walk from Sorrento's center. Located up a hill, its location allows for stellar city, sea, and Mount Vesuvius views from some rooms, the big outdoor pool, and seventh-floor Executive Lounge with its own infinity pool. All rooms come with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and desks, as well as furnished balconies, but it's worth securing a renovated rom. In addition to aforementioned amenities, there are an indoor grotto-like pool, modern fitness center, meeting spaces, but no spa and Wi-Fi requires a daily fee unless a Hilton Honors member. Quality dining includes a contemporary Japanese eatery with outdoor terrace, poolside snack bar, and Italian eatery with seafood dishes. Unfortunately, breakfast isn't free. Compare rates with the more central Grand Hotel La Favorita.

Tasso Suites
Via Luigi de Maio 13

The 18-room Tasso Suites is a modern, mid-range property in the heart of Sorrento. The year-round hotel is set just off the main Piazza Tasso, putting guests within easy reach of the port, beach, shops, restaurants, and bars. The four-floor hotel has contemporary units decorated in mostly white furnishings, all with air-conditioning, mini-fridges, hairdryers, and kettles. Apartments add kitchenettes with microwaves and stovetops, and dining tables. Some units have furnished terraces. The small lobby also acts as the breakfast room, where continental spreads are served (included in some rates). A spa on the basement level offers various treatments, but there are no full restaurant, bar, or gym here. For something similar but with a rooftop terrace, consider Magi House Relais.

Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria
Piazza Tasso, 34

Perched on the hillside overlooking the Bay of Naples, the four-and-a-half-pearl Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is a true gem. It's located in the heart of bustling Sorrento, but inside its gates the setting is tranquil. The 92 guest rooms are elegant and grand, with period furnishings and details, while terraces provide stunning panoramic views of the bay and Mount Vesuvius. The two restaurants include one with a Michelin star, and alfresco dining is an option. The outdoor pool is an additional plus, as are the spa, fitness center, and free breakfast. For a more modern and intimate boutique stay with plenty of upscale style, consider the Maison La Minervetta, though it's not quite as central.
