Aspery Hotel
5/41-51 Patong Beach Road

The budget Aspery Hotel draws a range of travelers for its stellar location in the north of Patong, just a three-minute walk to the beach and surrounded by the town's bustle of restaurant, shops, bars, and convenience stores. Despite being a rather humble hotel, it’s equipped with a full restaurant, a bar, and a massage venue. That said, the hotel's ongoing renovations haven't done much to address its dim lighting, nicked furniture, rusted fixtures, and general wear and tear. And its 140 rooms while spacious, are in need of touch ups. Still, many travelers are willing to overlook this for a well-located and well-priced spot. As an alternative, budget travelers could also consider the Red Planet Patong, which has fresher rooms though no on-site features.

Patong Paragon Resort & Spa
280 Prabaramee Rd. Patong

Patong Paragon is a solid, dependable upper-middle-range choice. It’s enormous pool, criss-crossed with footbridges and surrounded by spraying water features, is a draw for vacationing families and couples alike, and the location, off to one side of bustling Patong and across a rotary from the beach is another. Its 121 rooms are spacious enough to comfortably fit families, and they're stocked with the expected amenities. That said, this resort is fairly similar to several others in Phuket and doesn’t offer anything above and beyond the usual. Past guests have also complained of hard beds and some maintenance issues. For another family-oriented option that’s right on the beach, travelers could consider Arinara Bangtao Beach Resort.

Horizon Patong Beach Resort & Spa
64 / 39 Thaweewong Road, Soi Kep Sap

The Horizon Patong Beach Resort & Spa is a 160-room, upper-middle-range property with a direct walkway to the beach and a family-friendly atmosphere. Guest rooms are spacious, with minibars and views of gardens, or one of the property's two pools -- one of which is for families with kids. The spa has a mosaic-tiled steam room, and the gym is large and filled with light. There are also separate Indian and Italian restaurants, a free buffet breakfast, and a sports bar with games. Some of the furnishings -- including tube-style TVs -- are dated, though, and Wi-Fi is not free in all rooms. And while the resort is smoke-free, some guests have complained that the staff doesn't always enforce that rule. Another option is the Sunset Beach Resort, which is across the street from the beach and has family-friendly rooms and features.

Baumanburi Hotel
239/1 Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Road, Patong Beach

The 226-room, mid-range Baumanburi Hotel is in many ways the stereotypical Patong resort, done up in earth colors and centered around a big freeform pool with a swim-up bar. While the decor isn’t exactly memorable, and it feels old-fashioned in spots, the features and location more than meet the requirements for a sunny getaway, with Patong Beach just a six-minute walk away. Guest rooms have traditional furniture in a cherry-wood finish and are spacious enough to accommodate families. A few offer direct pool access as well. Dining takes place in two restaurants. A small spa complete with saunas and a steam room plus a fitness room (albeit with old equipment) round out the features. But the Baumanburi is notably lacking a kids' club. Those looking for a more modern take on a family-friendly resort can try the Deevana Plaza Phuket Patong, which is in the same area as this property.

Baan Yin Dee Boutique Resort
7/5 Muean Ngen Road

The 21-room Baan Yin Dee Boutique Resort is a three-and-a-half-pearl property situated on a hilltop overlooking the Andaman Sea. It's a quiet, peaceful place but is only a 10-minute walk or short ride from Patong Beach. Rooms are spacious and decorated in a traditional Boran Thai style, though the look is a bit fusty and dark. All have a balcony or terrace, and some offer direct access to the lovely four-tiered infinity pool, also with beautiful views of the sea. Rice Restaurant serves all meals in a nice open-air space with indoor and outdoor seating. There's no spa, but massage services are available in guest rooms or by the pool. Burasari Resort is a similarly priced alternative -- rooms there are more modern and it has an on-site spa plus free breakfast.

Seaview Patong Hotel
2, Thawewong Road, Patong Beach

The upper-middle-range Seaview Patong Hotel is not directly on the beachfront, but it does have the sea views its name suggests, and it's less than a minute's walk from Patong’s sand. Situated at a quieter end of the beach, the hotel is a bit removed from the resort town, but it is within a 15-minute walk of the restaurants and the area's well-known nightlife. The 141 rooms feel cramped and lack character, while bathrooms in particular are small and worn, especially in the lower room categories. The overall decor feels heavy and dated, with dark wood leaching out any brightness. The buffet breakfast is good, but other food available on-site gets mixed reviews. A better option could be the Holiday Inn Resort Phuket, which has stylish, up-to-date rooms.

Rosewood Phuket
88/28 Muen-Ngern Road, Tri Trang Beach

The luxurious Rosewood Phuket has 71 stunning villas and pavilions set along a hill and sloping down to a lovely, albeit small beach. Units are huge, elegant, and stylish, all outfitted with plunge pools, living spaces, and outdoor tubs and showers. Unfortunately, views of the ocean -- and frequent cruise ships -- throughout the resort are largely obstructed by trees. Suitable for both families and kids, the hotel offers a ton of features, including a freeform pool, swish spa, excellent kids' club, and fitness center with free classes. Stellar breakfast buffets with made-to-order dishes and an open-air Thai restaurant are favorites, plus there are an Italian restaurant, sushi spot, and casual poolside seafood eatery. Note that there's little within walking distance, though Patong Beach is just a five-minute drive away. Families may prefer Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach, which has three pools, one with a waterslide.

Holiday Inn Express Phuket Patong Beach Central
8, Hatpatong Road, Patong Beach

The 277-room Holiday Inn Express Phuket Patong Beach Central is a mid-range chain option conveniently located close to the beach, restaurants, shopping, and the nightlife of Bangla Road. Rooms are modern and fresh, and they all have furnished balconies. Breakfast is free and gets mostly solid marks, and there's a laundry room on-site. The pool is a plus, and kids get their own pool with water sprays. The fitness and business centers are open 24/7. Travelers looking for more authentic Thai character could check out the Sawaddi Patong Resort, although it's not as centrally located and it's farther from the beach.

B-Lay Tong Beach Resort
198 Taveewong Road

The upper-middle-range B-Lay Tong Beach Resort is an affordable, contemporary property located across the road from bustling Patong Beach. The 123 rooms are spacious and equipped with outdoor spaces, flat-screen TVs, and rainfall showers, plus many have hot tubs or stand-alone tubs. A good array of features includes a sea-view infinity pool, small spa and fitness center, and all-day restaurant serving Thai fare and buffet breakfasts with hot items. Unfortunately, some past guests have complained of areas feeling worn and service issues. For a resort that has more features and a luxe feel, check out the Grand Mercure Phuket Patong.

Nipa Resort
33 Sainamyen Road,, Patong Beach

The 117-room Nipa Resort is an affordable, mid-range property with a laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere in the bustling Patong area, a 10-minute walk from the beach. A traditional Thai style pervades throughout, and the activity centers around the main courtyard pool with an adjacent bar. Rooms are simple but attractive, and well-outfitted with air-conditioning, minibars, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and shower/tub combos. All have furnished outdoor spaces, some of which have direct access to the main pool or a jetted pool. The restaurant serves international fare all day, though most guests report food being mediocre and breakfasts limited. Other amenities consist of a small spa for massages and wellness treatments, free Wi-Fi and parking, and tour booking services. Cheap rates make this a good value, but travelers willing to pay more for a stay across from the beach in Phuket should consider the upscale Holiday Inn Resort Phuket, which has tons more features.
