An impressive property just off the Champs Elysees, Hotel Ekta is an excellent choice for those shopping for a stylish mid-range option. This 25-room boutique is impressively decorated with '60s inspired decor and funky Paris artwork throughout. Rooms are a bit on the small side, but they offer up thoughtful amenities like Nespresso machines and multi-country electrical outlets. There’s no on-site restaurant or gym, but continental breakfast is available every morning (for a fee) and the hotel has a private underground parking garage (rare for a Parisian boutique). Plus, Wi-Fi is free for all guests. Travelers looking for an equally trendy property with a few more amenities might prefer the pricier Hotel Pershing Hall, which has an on-site restaurant, spa, and fitness center but is farther from the Champs Elysees.

Its 50 rooms, some of which have balconies and decorative fireplaces, retain the classic elegance of Haussmann-style details while adding such modern amenities as iPod docks, flat-screen TVs, and minibars with free soft drinks. There’s a full-service restaurant and bar, meeting space for 150 people, and private parking. As an alternative, the mid-range Europe Hotel Paris is nearby and has cheaper rates, but it lacks a restaurant or room service. 

The two-pearl Regent Hostel is in a lively neighborhood of the 9th Arrondissement, and is about a 10-minute walk to Sacre-Coeur in Montmarte. Its 56 rooms include dorms that sleep up to 10 and private rooms with en-suite bathrooms and flat-screen TVs. Some rooms have tiny wrought-iron balconies that look out on the Sacre-Coeur. They're clean overall, but the furniture and bathrooms show signs of wear. A game room, library, and communal kitchen are available for guests' use. While close to Montmarte and the music clubs near Pigalle, major attractions require a trip on public transportation. Located in one of the most chic neighborhoods in Paris, the Prince de Galles Hotel is luxury property with a well-executed vintage style. Interiors are elegant, blending modern furnishings with Art Deco touches. The Crown Plaza Paris Republique is a good base from which to explore the charms of Paris. It faces the lively Place de la Republique in an area with lots of shops, restaurants, and cafes plus five metro lines. The hotel’s 328 rooms are clean and spacious by Paris standards, with room service and coffeemakers, but those facing the Place can be noisy. Concierge service, secure parking, meeting space, a fitness center, and a restaurant/bar enhance the experience. Rates are comparable with other upscale properties in Paris, such as the Pullman Paris Bercy, which offers spacious rooms and a fitness center with a sauna.

The 81-room Hotel Jardins d'Eiffel is a quiet Left Bank property with a good bit of contemporary flair located a 15-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower. The best of the rooms have balconies or windows with Eiffel Tower views, and all have minibars, LED TVs, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel also offers a generous breakfast buffet and on-site underground parking, both for daily fees. A secluded garden courtyard and a ground-floor lounge with affordable wines by the bottle make up the hotel's common areas. For an even more modern option in the same neighborhood, look into Hotel du Cadran Tour Eiffel, though rooms there are an even tighter squeeze.
