Graduate Minneapolis
615 Washington Ave SE

The Graduate Minneapolis is located on the University of Minnesota campus, so its lobby is often lively with lots of students. Being near the hospital, it also attracts many patients and doctors. The upper-middle-range hotel features stylish interiors with a chic, schoolhouse theme that's well-suited to its university environment. Features include an attractive restaurant and bar, a fitness center, and plenty of meeting rooms and event space. The 304 modern rooms have attractive furnishings, including leather chairs and classy work areas, as well as modern amenities. Though well serviced by public transportation, the hotel is a bit far from downtown; travelers who don't need to be near the university may want to compare rates with Hyatt Place Minneapolis/Downtown

Hilton Garden Inn Minneapolis Downtown
1101 4th Ave S

Modern and centrally located on the edge of downtown, the Hilton Garden Inn Minneapolis Downtown is a mid-range chain hotel primarily popular with business travelers. The lobby is sleek and trendy, and the rooms have understated, chain-like modern decor. Both the business center and gym are more extensive and modern than most, there are extensive meeting and event spaces, and the heated indoor pool attracts both kids and adults. There’s also a full-service restaurant that offers a children’s menu for families, and the lobby market sells snacks at any hour.

Best Western Plus Bloomington Hotel
1901 Killebrew Dr

When it comes to comfort, price, and simplicity near the Mall of America and MSP airport, the BEST WESTERN PLUS Bloomington is tough to top. While not the most glamorous of hotels, the Best Western has 211 spacious and well-equipped rooms and suites with iPhone docks and flat-screen TVs, and appeal to both business travelers and families. Its interior pool complex is especially popular, and free shuttles around the area make it an especially convenient stay.

Loews Minneapolis Hotel
601 1st Ave N

Located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, between the Target Center and Hennepin Ave, the Loews Minneapolis is a sleek and modern, 251-room high-rise hotel that appeals to couples, tourists, and business travelers alike. Etched-glass headboards, five-head showers, iPod docks, and custom mattresses indicate the attention to detail paid in rooms. The two popular restaurants and trendy champagne bar are popular with both locals and out-of-towners. Unlike the nearby, similarly priced Westin and Radisson Blu, the Loews has a full-service spa -- but it lacks the Westin's heated indoor pool.

Canal Park Lodge
250 Canal Park Dr

The appropriately named Canal Park Lodge is a comfortable hotel overlooking Lake Superior in Duluth's Canal Park. Rooms range in size, with clean, modern, chain-hotel-style furnishings. Some rooms have private balconies and lake views, while others are less scenic, with vistas of the city and parking lot. Free hot breakfast and Wi-Fi are nice perks, but the lobby bar is cash-only and is only open at limited times. Families appreciate the indoor swimming pool and adjacent video game arcade. Therapeutic massages can be scheduled and roses can be ordered through the front desk, making this otherwise standard, upper-mid-range hotel an especially cozy hideaway for couples. Be warned, this is a popular hotel for youth hockey teams.

The Inn on Lake Superior
350 Canal Park Dr

The aptly named Inn on Lake Superior is situated in a prime spot on the lake it's named after in the vibrant Canal Park Warehouse District. Views of the lake from the mid-range hotel are spectacular, and there are many shops, restaurants, and the Aerial Lift Bridge within a 10-minute walk. There's plenty to do at the hotel as well, with indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, hot tub, and game room. The 174 contemporary guest rooms can include lake views and hot tubs. Guests start their day with the free buffet breakfast and end them with free s'mores by the lake in the evening. Nearby Edgewater Hotel & Waterpark has an indoor water park, but the location isn't as convenient.

South Pier Inn on the Canal
701 S Lake Ave, At the foot of Canal Park's Aerial Lift Bridge on Park Point.

Located right next to Duluth's iconic Aerial Lift Bridge, in the picturesque Canal Park on Lake Superior, the South Pier Inn on the Canal is a charming, family-run hotel that draws couples and families for weekend getaways. All rooms and suites -- each with a private balcony -- overlook Lake Superior or the harbor's shipping canal and large windows let in plenty of natural light. The fireplaces and whirlpools in many suites make them feel like cozy mini apartments. Breakfast is free but there is no hot food served and no fitness center on site. Parking is free -- a boon in the popular Canal Park area -- and excursions can be booked at the front desk.

SpringHill Suites Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport/Eagan
3635 Crestridge Dr

This mid-range Marriott chain hotel is close to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport and the Mall of America. Free airport shuttles are provided as are special rates for travelers that include up to eight days of parking. Guest rooms are large, if a bit in need of a refresh, and include kitchenettes. There’s a small indoor pool with a deck overlooking a nearby lake and a gym. Rates also include Wi-Fi and a free buffet breakfast with hot dishes, and the hotel is within walking distance of chain restaurants.

Hilton Minneapolis Bloomington
3900 American Blvd W

The 256-room Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington is an upscale chain hotel popular with business travelers located in an office park about 15 minutes from the Minneapolis airport. Rooms are large, comfortable, and clean, though they could stand an update. There is a small indoor pool and hot tub, a medium-size 24-hour fitness center, and a wide variety of meeting spaces, plus free shuttle service to the nearby Mall of America and the airport. Two restaurants, including a steakhouse with an inviting bar, are located on-site (though can be pricey). Common complaints include a pesky daily fee for Internet, slow room service, and crowded parking.

Comfort Suites Canal Park
408 Canal Park Dr.

The 123-room Comfort Suites Canal Park is a homey hotel set directly on the shores of Lake Superior within view of Aerial Lift Bridge. This property offers the calm panorama of the water, access to walking paths alongside the lake, and close proximity to the restaurants, boutiques, and public spaces of the lively warehouse district of Canal Park in downtown Duluth. The rooms are mid-range and a touch generic, though some do have nice extras including fireplaces and balconies. Some guests have noted that the hotel frequently hosts groups such as sports teams and conferences, which can result in nighttime noise. Breakfast is free and there are a nice indoor pool, fitness center, and business center on-site.
