Ambrosia Key West Tropical Lodging
622 Fleming St

This charming mid-range bed-and-breakfast is close enough to Key West action to be considered convenient, but secluded enough to still be a relaxing retreat. With the Ambrosia within fast walking distance of Duval Street, Mallory Square, and the historic seaport, guests often venture out after enjoying the free daily breakfast served in a gazebo, but they can also be seen relaxing in the hotel's two pools, hot tub, or courtyard. There are 20 rooms here, each with its own distinctive theme, size, and pricing. Situated in a former tropical nursery, the grounds are lush and a popular site for destination weddings.

Silver Palms Inn
830 Truman Avenue

One of the only modern hotels in Key West  -- ironically situated in the Historic District -- this upper-mid-range, 50-room property is an ideal vacation spot. Close to the action but far enough away to also be quiet, guests can walk to Duval Street or spend the day lounging by the hotel's lovely pool. The rooms are minimally decorated but bright and airy with tile floors, cool colors, and modern amenities like large flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. There’s no on-site restaurant or bar, though there are plenty of options nearby, but there is a free daily continental breakfast.

Chelsea House Hotel in Key West
709 Truman Ave

Composed of two houses, one built in 1891 and the other in 1905, this beautiful, mid-range Key West property is a classic part of the Historic Key West Inns and located in the area’s historical district. Last renovated in 2005 and with 33 rooms available, the hotel has tropical, rustic decorations. Guest units are equipped with modern conveniences like flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges, though noise from the main street can travel to rooms. Visitors have also complained about the poor condition of rooms, from dirty bathrooms to moldy walls. Limited amenities include a heated pool with sundeck surrounded by palm trees.

Lighthouse Court Hotel in Key West
902 Whitehead St

Part of the Historic Key West Inns chain, the Lighthouse Court consists of 40 guest rooms scattered throughout 10 conch buildings. Palm trees shade the property and the courtyard pool is flanked by the Mojito Bar and Cafe, which offers light fare and cocktails. Still, travelers may have to contend with a number of cons which include small rooms, shabby furnishings, inauthentic decor, and a chaotic parking situation. But if location is more what matters, then Lighthouse Court's location -- within the area's historic district and just one block off Duval Street -- is prime.

Parrot Key Hotel & Villas
2801 N Roosevelt Blvd

The 148-room Parrot Key Hotel & Resort is located on the Florida Bay, a bit away from Key West’s popular Duval Street and entertainment district. Though photos show lounge chairs in the sand along the water’s edge, the property isn’t technically on the beach, but there is access to water sports and activities from the dock. Rooms are set up like townhouses or condos, some having lovely water views.

Key West Marriott Beachside Hotel
3841 North Roosevelt Boulevard

The 222-room Marriott Key West Beachside Hotel is a waterfront property located away from the party atmosphere of downtown Key West (a free shuttle takes guests to and from the action). There is a private, man-made beach along with a big, zig-zag shaped pool, and on-site fitness center with daily yoga classes. The rooms have luxurious furnishings -- some have multiple bedrooms and full stainless-steel kitchens plus gorgeous ocean views. It's a popular choice for big groups and corporate meetings, but there aren't many restaurants or attractions within walking distance.

Orchid Key Inn
1004 Duval Street

Orchid Key Inn is a 24-room, upper-middle range boutique located on Duval Street in the heart of Key West’s tourist area and within walking distance of lively bars, outdoor cafes, and unique shops. Though it doesn't look like much from the outside, the interior of the hotel is renovated, elegant, and stylish with an orchid design motif found throughout the property and chic rooms. There is a big pool with lush landscaping and one free drink during happy hour at the poolside bar, but no on-site restaurants serve lunch or dinner. Rates are competitive given the hotel's central location and modern style.

Merlin Guest House Key West
811 Simonton St

The 20-room Merlin Guesthouse is a mid-range bed-and-breakfast shaded by tropical greenery on a 1930-built property that’s one block from Duval Street. This charming retreat has a lush courtyard and breakfast terrace, a quiet outdoor pool, and a front porch with chairs for lounging. Stylish rooms feature exposed ceiling beams and flat-screen TVs; suites have mini-fridges. One- and two-bedroom cottages offer wet bars or kitchenettes, living rooms, and patios. There aren’t any in-room telephones and the cheapest rooms lack mini-fridges. Both Wi-Fi and continental breakfast are free. The Ambrosia Key West, with more in-room amenities, is a comparable alternative choice.

Angelina Guest House
302 Angela St

The Angelina Guest House is a former 1920s bordello and gambling den turned into a charming Key West bed-and-breakfast teeming with Southern hospitality. The 13-room budget property welcomes adults only, and maintains a quiet, peaceful atmosphere; the owners request that guests leave their partying on nearby Duval Street. The Angelina offers a lovely lagoon-style pool, bike rentals, and homemade cinnamon rolls included in the free breakfast. Accommodations are clean and well cared for, ranging from simple rooms with shared bathrooms to efficiencies with refrigerators and microwaves; guest rooms don’t have phones, and only one has a TV.
