The Mana Kai Maui is a condominium hotel that offers modern facilities and a central location just outside of downtown Kihei, making this property a good base for tourists, families, and business travelers. Renovated in 2008, it's a well-maintained property in an affordable beachfront location. The sea is so close that guests can literally fall asleep to the sound of the ocean while in their rooms. Repeat visitors say it's worth the splurge to have a room with a lanai. With a yoga studio and plenty of water sports to choose from, it's a great place for active travelers on a beach holiday.

This mid-range condo hotel offers 200 contemporary condos on a lovely property in North Kihei that’s steps from the shore. It sits behind a small park that extends down to a narrow, windy beach. This lively, family-friendly property has a pool and hot tub surrounded by nice lawns, and a social atmosphere. While the rooms are basic and due for some updates, every condo has a nice lanai, many with ocean (and, as the name promises, spectacular sunset) views. For a condo property with a better beach where every unit has an ocean view, consider the Hale Pau Hana Beach Resort. 

A mid-range condo complex across from Kamole Beach Park II, Kihei Akahi offers solid value in an excellent location. The property is within walking distance of everything Kihei has to offer, including shops, bars, restaurants, and grocery stores. Decor varies across 220 individually owned units, but it’s fair to say that most would benefit from some upgrades. Studio, one-, and two-bedroom condos are equipped with kitchenettes or full kitchens, in-unit laundry, and outdoor balconies, though most lack ocean views. There are two pools and two tennis courts, but travelers looking for additional amenities like an on-site restaurant and fitness center might prefer the nearby Maui Coast Hotel, though it doesn’t have apartment-style units. 

The 87-room budget Days Inn Maui Oceanfront is right on South Maui’s Keawakapu Beach, an ideal spot for lovers of sand and sea. For dinner, there’s an on-site award-winning Italian restaurant, but for other meals and snacks, guests must fend for themselves. The property has a chain motel feel with a bit of tropical flair in the rooms, which are small and clean. The property is best for travelers who plan to be out of their rooms and on the go. Especially since there isn't a swimming pool or Internet available in the rooms. ****

Formerly the Maui Sunseeker, a mid-range hotel that catered to the LGBT community, the hotel was sold in September 2016 and re-opened as Kohea Kai Resort Maui, which welcomes all adults regardless of sexual orientation. Since no kids are allowed, the atmosphere here is both laid-back and mature. There are no formal dining options, but many rooms come with kitchens, and several grills are available in the garden patio, in addition to a 24-hour grab-and-go bistro. The beach is right across the street. There aren't many restaurants within walking distance, so a car is needed for guests who plan to eat out.

The 316 condominiums in this mid-range beach resort are right across the street from the Pacific Ocean and close to beaches, restaurants, shops, and golf. The one -and two-bedroom condos have plenty of space, full kitchens, and private balconies, although few have Wi-Fi or Internet. Units are individually-owned, so amenities and decor vary, but unlike similar properties, visitors can choose which condos they want to book. Some units are impressively modern, the grounds are lush, and the amenities -- including two pools, a hot tub, tennis courts, and barbecue grills -- are plentiful. The most outstanding feature, however, is the stunning beach across the street. For the location and the amenities, Maui Kamaole is a solid value.

The Hilton Waikoloa Village is the largest and most family-friendly resort in the Kailua-Kona area, and is often referred to as the “Disneyland“ of the Big Island. With 1,200 rooms, three large pool areas, extensive outdoor grounds and a variety of on-site dining options, the Hilton Waikoloa is indeed a small village in and of itself, and a tram and canal boats help guests travel across the sprawling property. Each of the three towers on the property has a different style of room decor, but the overall feel the same: clean and generic. The biggest downsides? The property is showing its age, the restaurants are pricey (and mostly mediocre), and there's no beach on the actual ocean -- just a thin strip of sand on the man-made lagoon. Luckily Lagoon Tower rooms were renovated in 2012.

The Hilton Grand Vacations Club offers an affordable two-bedroom option within the Waikoloa Beach Resort. The living room, dining, and kitchen areas are well-equipped for multiple guests and longer stays, much like other condos in the area, but access to the Waikoloa Hilton allows guests to enjoy resort-like perks close by. The lobby area and main pool are beautifully designed, though both can easily become crowded (along with other facilities) due to high traffic and small space. Some areas are a bit dated, but overall it's a great value for the price and for those looking for a more at-home-type extended stay.

Renovated in 2017, the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa is an upscale property set along Anaehoomalu Bay on the Kohala coast, offering beach access, lovely grounds with winding paths and fish ponds, and features for both kids and adults. The 297 rooms are modern and sophisticated, if a bit generic, equipped with free Wi-Fi, showers, and Netflix-enabled flat-screen TVs. All units have furnished balconies or terraces -- some with ocean views. The pool complex is attractive but a bit small for the size of the resort, and the many kids found here may be a con for couples seeking a peaceful retreat. However, Mandara Spa offers tranquil treatments, fun luaus are well-regarded, and water sports such as snorkeling are available. The hotel's location -- next to two championship golf courses, and within walking distance of shops and restaurants -- is convenient, especially since guests may be inclined to skip the mediocre on-site dining. Couples seeking a romantic getaway should consider the nearby Mauna Lani.

This clean, affordable condo property in Waikoloa Village on the Kohala Coast offers an uncommon level of privacy: It's located inside a gated community and surrounded by a golf course. Ranch-inspired buildings house multi-room units, complete with full kitchens and washer/dryers, and property features include an attractive (if small) infinity pool and an open-air fitness room. But the living rooms and kitchens are a bit smaller than you'll find at competing condo properties, the decor varies by unit, and the beach is a half mile away.
