Mylos hotel
Firostefani 847 00 Greece
Cliff Side Suites
Firostefani 847 00 Greece

Cliff Side Suites is a chic and upscale boutique option on the caldera in Firostefani Village, which looks similar to neighboring Fira, but is less crowded since it's farther from the cruise port. The hotel's whitewashed buildings and 24 cave-style rooms and suites certainly look a lot like what the neighboring hotels offer, but the finish here is noticeably high quality and modern. The small outdoor pool and adjacent bar serve as the main social hub; it's also where free hot breakfast is served. There are two whirlpools, though they don't overlook the caldera and the water isn't heated. Note that the hotel isn't well signed and can be hard to find. Look for a hidden set of steps near Wild Ginger sushi restaurant and make your way down. For something similar that's closer to Fira, check rates at Aria Suites Hotel.

Agnadema Apartments
Firostefani 847 00 Greece

The upper-middle-range Agnadema Apartments is a small, 10-room property perched atop Fira, in the small village of Firostefani, offering those famous sea views. Chic rooms have traditional Cycladic decor, modern comforts, and balconies, although entry-level ones are shared and have less-stellar vistas. Removed from crowds, the place is quiet, which is ideal for gazing at the humbling caldera from terraces around the outdoor pool. Limited features here don't include a bar or restaurant, however breakfasts are delivered to rooms, and Firostefani's offerings are a few minutes away on foot (via many steep steps). Views are less magical at The Splendour Resort, but a pool bar and restaurant give it more of a hotel feel.

Homeric Poems
Fira 84 700 Greece

The luxurious 20-room Homeric Poems Studios is a stunning aparthotel set on a cliff at Firostefani, with breathtaking caldera views. The hotel is a romantic hideaway well-suited to honeymooners. Decor is inspired by epic poetry and there are plenty of private crannies (and a luxe infinity pool with adjacent bar) from which to gaze across the Aegean. The individually decorated guest rooms are charming, with kitchenettes, private caldera-view balconies, and lovely mosaic tile or natural stone bathrooms. No children under 12 are allowed at this peaceful, grown-up getaway. This is one of the top options in Firostefani; the nearby, pricier Tsitouras Collection Hotel has museum-quality art throughout, but its rooms lack kitchenettes and not all have a private terrace.

The Tsitouras Collection Hotel
Firostefani 847 00 Greece

The Tsitouras Collection Hotel is a unique, upscale property set in a gorgeous 18th-century Cycladic mansion in the small village of Firostefani. While its setting affords stunning sunset views over the caldera as well as easy access to Fira town, the main highlight is its private art collection -- a huge array of museum-quality art pieces that are scattered throughout the property and its five suites. Service is also top-notch and very personal, while amenities are suitably high-end with plenty of luxury touches. Rates can be fairly reasonable for this category -- for Santorini -- though while all rooms have ocean views, only one has a private terrace. The nearby Sun Rocks Hotel has terraces for every room and similar prices, though it's not as intimate and the decor here is more special.

Agali Houses
Fira 84700 Greece
Splendour Resort
Firostefani 847 00 Greece

The 59-room Splendour Resort is a mid-range property built against a hillside at the edge of Firostefani, with Aegean Sea views and minimalist style. While the resort feels quiet and removed, it's only around a 10-minute walk from the action in Fira. The two-level pool has a sundeck and poolside bar, and the restaurant serves a buffet breakfast for a fee. Since poolside loungers are in high demand, it might be worth paying extra for suites with semi-private pools overlooking the sea. Rooms are underwhelming and sparse in design and views vary greatly, though they have balconies or terraces. There aren't many features here, so guests seeking resort-style activities and a more luxurious setting may want to try Fira's Majestic Hotel, though rates are a bit higher.
