Originally built as a private summer house for Nicholas Romanov -- the last tsar of Russia -- this grand Victorian villa certainly boasts one Torquay's more impressive heritages. A storied history doesn't prevent the property from evolving: The hotel spa was completed in early 2016 and includes hydro pools, a sauna, steam room, hot tub, and lounge with coastal views. There is also a small fitness center available for guests' use. Though the spa is relatively new, other areas of the hotel could use a refresh; Cary Arms is overall much more contemporary and fresh.
This historic clifftop property offers gorgeous views of the Devon coast and a good number of facilities for the price. The mid-range hotel has a decent-sized outdoor pool with terraced sundecks and beautiful sea views. The Imperial's outdoor pool is a a huge plus over the Headland, which doesn't have one, but the Headland's new spa facilities ultimately give it the edge. The Imperial also an indoor pool, as well as a hot tub, sauna, and solarium. Other wellness facilities include a fitness center, an outdoor tennis court, and a spa offering various treatments utilizing Decleor products, including facials, massages, and manicures.
