Chez Oscar Appart'hotel Champs Elysees

Tucked in one of Paris’s main commercial districts, the upper-middle-range, boutique Hotel Oscar occupies just one floor of a classic 19th-century Haussmann building, rather than the entire property. Despite the limited square footage, the six stylish rooms and suites accommodate several modern comforts, from iPad minis and free Wi-fi to small kitchenettes with Nespresso and Special.T machines. The hotel is ideally located within walking distance to the Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, and metro stations. Apart from an optional in-room breakfast (for a charge), there aren’t any additional amenities or lounging areas here, and the reception staff is unavailable at night. For a more traditional setup and space to kick back, travelers may prefer the nearby Hotel Francois 1er, which has a lounge bar, meeting rooms, and similar nightly rates.

Lenox Montparnasse

Just a short walk from the Gare Montparnasse train station, the Lenox Montparnasse is a smallish hotel with very few on-site amenities, but multiple guests have raved that staff works hard to help with any needs and to offer suggestions. There are three categories of room: Junior Suites, Club Rooms, and Classic Rooms. All feature fresh, if somewhat bland, decor and flat-screen TVs, but Classic Rooms in particular are tiny and bathrooms are a bit dated. This hotel's proximity to several metro/subway lines makes it a practical starting point for visiting the capital's monuments and main tourist attractions.

BLC Design Hotel

Geared toward a younger crowd, this all-white 29-room boutique hotel fills a traveler's basic needs for a nice place to crash while visiting Paris. The 11th arrondissement location -- one of the most densely populated urban districts in Europe -- is packed with dining and nightlife, and close to the Notre Dame and Opera de la Bastille, among other sites. The rooms, while on the small side for a Paris boutique hotel, offer comfortable beds and sleek, contemporary design. The bathrooms feature modern fixtures and glass-enclosed walk-in showers -- though some are integrated into the bedrooms and thus lack privacy. The hotel features minimal, modern white design throughout -- which can be considered either sleek and sexy, or cold and harsh, depending on your taste. LCD flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and a small bar with light eats are the extent of the hotel's amenities -- but for a hip place to call home during your stay, BLC Design Hotel is a good bet.

Le Relais Montmartre

The intimate, 26-room Le Relais Montmartre sits at the foot of artistic Montmartre, but manages to remain quiet and peaceful despite the neighborhood's active nightlife. Inside and out, the hotel has a quintessentially Parisian vibe, as if guests could walk out the lobby doors and spot Audrey Tatou riding past on her bike. (Scenes from the film "Amelie" were filmed a block away.) The bright rooms are charmingly decorated with patterned wallpapers, bedspreads, and curtains, and come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free coffee and tea. Some room rates include breakfast, which is served in the stone cellar and can be enjoyed on the patio. Le Relais Montmartre is ideal for romantics and traditionalists, but travelers looking for more of a scene should try The Hoxton, Paris.

Villa Madame

The 28-room Villa Madame is an upscale, family-owned boutique hotel on the Left Bank of Paris, in the heart of the 6th Arrondissement. Its interiors manage to be lush without fussiness, thanks to minimalist furnishings complementing a proliferation of flowers, candles, and the scent of essential oils, all leading to the verdant Secret Garden out back (also perfect for lounging). This style extends to the rooms, which are similarly outfitted with contemporary furnishings and decor, and feature not only room diffusers but showerheads fitted with special attachments that can dispense essential oils while the water is running. On the downside, Villa Madame lacks a gym or full restaurant, though it does offer a cozy bar and breakfast service that can be made-to-order and delivered to rooms. Travelers in search of free breakfasts might check out the nearby Hotel de l'Abbaye Saint-Germain.

Hotel Monge

The 30-room, upscale Hotel Monge is a beautiful boutique in the heart of Paris' bohemian 5th Arrondissement. Sparkling, 2016-renovated interiors blend classically elegant decor with modern design. The small, but well-appointed rooms have flat-screen TVs, sleek bathrooms, minibars, and safes. A wellness area has a steam room and offers massages, but there's no fitness center. Free all-day drinks and snacks are served in a cozy lounge, and an area serving quality breakfasts (fee) becomes an honesty bar in evenings. Although removed from major sights, the hotel is still central and Rue Mouffetard's vibrant bars and shops are nearby, as is the Pantheon and metro stations for farther destinations. Wi-Fi is free throughout. It's worth considering the similarly priced Hotel du Levant, which provides free breakfast.

Terrass'' Hotel by MH

A trendy boutique with stunning Eiffel Tower views, Terrass” Hotel by MH is a great option for travelers who want to stay on the romantic hill of Montmartre. Its 92 rooms feature stylish, modern decor inspired by the local neighborhood, and its rooftop restaurant attracts a chic crowd. Other on-site features include a small spa and a dinky fitness center -- though this is more than many other boutiques offer -- plus a multipurpose event space that can be used for corporate meetings or private receptions. Location, however, could be a downside; Sacre Coeur and the Moulin Rouge are within walking distance, but the hotel is far from most Paris tourist attractions. Travelers who’d prefer a more central neighborhood should check out Artus Hotel by MH in St-Germain-des-Pres, though it has fewer amenities.

Sofitel Le Scribe Paris Opera

The Hotel Scribe Paris is an upscale Haussmannian-style property dating back to the 19th century with an impressive cultural and historical heritage. Its 9th arrondissement location puts visitors in the bustling heart of the capital, with Metro stops a short walk away. A fine-dining restaurant, chic vintage cocktail bar, and traditional tea room add to the timeless elegance of the hotel. The rooms, however, can feel a little lackluster in comparison and are typically on the small side. For a similar luxurious vibe at more reasonable rates -- though with less history -- check out the nearby Hôtel Westminster.

Le Dokhan’s, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Le Dokhan’s, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, is an upscale boutique option that offers relative serenity within walking distance of many top sights. Formerly a Radisson Blu property, this six-story Haussmannian mansion in the 16th arrondissement will thrill fans of  ornate Empire Style, which is showcased throughout the property including the 45 guest rooms. On the downside, this hotel, erected as a private residence in the 19th century, lacks some of the facilities you might find in other properties at this pearl rating, though it does offer a regal Champagne bar. But travelers looking for more features could try the Hôtel Garden Elysées, a modern four-pearl alternative located nearby, that has a fitness center, private parking, and a courtyard terrace, in addition to a cleaner contemporary look.

Hotel Louis 2

Charming, atmospheric interiors are full of Parisienne character at this upper-middle-range boutique hotel, which occupies an excellent location in the 6th Arrondissement for easy access to dining, shopping, and metro access. The 21 guest rooms are equally elegant and equipped with flat-screen TVs, Nespresso machines, minibars, and Nuxe toiletries -- but they're small, and the tiny plain bathrooms are lackluster in comparison. A breakfast buffet is available (for a fee) in the inviting lobby lounge, where guests can also purchase snacks and drinks throughout the day. There's not much else in terms of features, however, besides a meeting room and business area. For more features -- but less character -- check out the Holiday Inn Paris-St. Germain Des Pres, which has a restaurant and bar.
