Tucked away along Laie’s scenic coastline, the Courtyard by Marriott Oahu North Shore offers an affordable escape on the North Shore of Oahu. This recently renovated retreat—fresh off a $7 million makeover—features clean and modern rooms, a resort-style pool, and budget-friendly perks like no resort fees and suites with full kitchens.
Unlike the typical, cookie-cutter Courtyards found elsewhere, this hotel fully embraces its North Shore setting, offering a true sense of place. Far from Waikiki’s towering mega-resorts, it follows the local law that keeps buildings no taller than a coconut tree, preserving the area’s natural charm. Thoughtful design elements, like net-inspired lighting reminiscent of the traditional hukilau fishing technique, ensure that every detail reflects the island’s rich heritage—constantly reminding guests of the special place they’re in.
Thoughtful details, like welcome gifts of local macadamia nut candy and complimentary aloe face masks—perfect for soothing sun-kissed skin—surprise and delight guests at every turn.

Scene
A great value accommodation option on the North Shore.

Despite the absence of resort fees, the Courtyard delivers a true tropical resort experience. Its newly upgraded pool area features a waterfall, whirlpool tubs, and cabanas, along with plenty of space for outdoor games, including pickleball, volleyball, and basketball courts.
The hotel maintains an alcohol-free environment, attracting families and those seeking more of a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere than a party scene. Due to its location in Laie—a town primarily owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—alcohol sales are prohibited on the property, as the area is officially dry. This makes the Courtyard an excellent choice for sober or sober-curious travelers. However, this policy shouldn't deter those who want to enjoy tropical cocktails on vacation—neighboring towns with plenty of options are just a five-minute drive away. Guests are also welcome to bring their own drinks to enjoy in their rooms.
On most weekday mornings, the lobby buzzes with families eager to immerse themselves in Hawaiian culture through complimentary activities like hula and ukulele lessons, led by the hotel’s “Aloha Ambassador,” Kekela “Aunty Kela” Miller, a local kumu hula (hula teacher). The Courtyard is deeply connected to the local community, frequently hosting events celebrating Hawaiian heritage and showcasing pop-up markets where guests can support local artisans.
Location
A quiet town with easy access to the North Shore’s best beaches and attractions.

Located along Kamehameha Highway, the main road that winds along the North Shore, the Courtyard is ideally situated for exploring the area. Unlike in busy Waikiki, the North Shore area has preserved its peaceful, laid-back charm by limiting new hotel developments and restricting most short-term vacation rentals. This makes the Courtyard a rare and affordable alternative to the area’s only other major resort, Turtle Bay.
Set in the quiet town of Laie, about 1.5 hours away from Waikiki, the hotel is perfectly positioned for exploring the best of the North Shore. Just across the street, guests will find the picturesque Onini Beach. With no nearby public parking or obvious access points, the beach often feels like a secluded retreat exclusively for hotel visitors. The North Shore’s most famous beaches, including Sunset Beach and Shark’s Cove, are approximately a 20-minute drive from the hotel.
Right next door to the Courtyard is the Polynesian Cultural Center, a sprawling complex owned by the Mormon Church. It features a variety of shops, food trucks, and evening luaus performed by Brigham Young University students—an attraction that draws plenty of big tour buses.
Rooms
144 spacious guest rooms and suites offer options for all types of travelers.
Designed with families, groups, and budget-conscious travelers in mind, the Courtyard offers a variety of room options, including standard guest rooms, family rooms, and suites.
The family rooms are particularly unique, offering 390 square feet of space for larger groups to spread out. Each features a king bed and a partially enclosed alcove with two sets of bunk beds, comfortably sleeping up to six adults. Unlike many hotels, the Courtyard charges per room rather than per person, making it an especially budget-friendly choice for group trips.
For those looking for extra space and convenience, suites provide an excellent option in an otherwise pricey destination like Hawaii. Spanning 504 square feet, they include a separate bedroom with a king bed, a living area with a sofa bed, and a full kitchen—perfect for extended stays or saving on dining costs.
The rooms are spotless and still feel brand-new, each featuring a minifridge (or a full refrigerator in suites) and vibrant, tropical-themed wallpaper above the bed, adding a touch of island charm.
Notably, the Courtyard doesn’t differentiate between ocean view and non-ocean view rooms. Since ocean views are only partial, the hotel decided not to charge extra for these rooms, leaving it as a pleasant surprise for lucky guests.
Food
One-stop shop for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The Bistro, the Courtyard’s convenient lobby eatery, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily from 6:30 AM to 9:00 PM, with Starbucks coffee available throughout the day.
While the Bistro provides a simple, convenient option for on-site dining, guests will likely want to explore the incredible local food scene. Just a 10-minute drive away, the Kahuku Sugar Mill hosts a variety of food trucks, including Oahu’s famous shrimp trucks—a must-try for visitors looking to experience the island’s renowned street food.
For quick snacks and drinks between adventures, the hotel also features a small on-site market.
