The Chesterfield Mayfair
35 Charles Street, Mayfair

The Chesterfield Mayfair is part of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection. This 107-room hotel has traditional Victorian decor, including a grand chandelier in the lobby and portraits on the walls. While rooms are classically decorated with floral patterns, they have modern conveniences as well, including free Wi-Fi, big flat-screen TVs, and 24-hour room service. Highlights at this charming property include a great breakfast with wide selection of hot and cold dishes, a fine dining restaurant, and a terrace bar.

Pompano Beach Club
36 Pompano Beach Road

This 75-room resort’s hilltop setting is one of Bermuda’s most stunning. Consequently, all of its major amenities -- three restaurants, two bars, a lounge, a pool, three Jacuzzis, a boathouse, a game room, a small spa, and a fitness center – feature expansive ocean views and quick beach access. But killer vistas aren’t enough to save the dated decor and worn furnishings in the rooms and communal areas, which are in dire need of updates. Rates are higher than at some newer resorts with better rooms and amenities.

The Tower Hotel
St Katharine's Way

The Tower is a modern, upper-middle-range business property located on the Thames, right next to Tower Bridge. Its 801 rooms are starting to look a bit dated for a hotel of this caliber, and there have been complaints about cleanliness and maintenance issues. Though it's a bit unpolished in places, the hotel does have a restaurant, a bar, and 19 fully equipped meeting rooms. There's also a lovely terrace with great views. While the location is great for business travelers wanting access to the City of London, tourists may be better off staying somewhere closer to West End attractions. The Grosvenor Hotel is a good alternative and it's located near Buckingham Palace.

YOTELAIR London Heathrow Airport
Landside Terminal Four Arrivals Mezzanine, London Heathrow Airport

YOTEL London Heathrow Airport is a mid-range transit hotel located on the arrivals level of the airport's Terminal 4. There are 32 tiny, windowless cabins that are designed to feel like airplane cabins, and are constructed with similar materials to what's found in airplane interiors. They are essentially a step above sleeping pods, with flat-screen TVs, pull-out desks, and surprisingly large bathrooms for a space-saving hotel. Amenities here are limited, though there is free Wi-Fi, free hot drinks, and a basic snack menus. Travelers looking for a more traditional airport hotel may want to compare rates at Heathrow Hotel Bath Road.

Melia White House
Albany Street, Regent's Park

Despite being a chain hotel, Melia White House stands out from the norm with an impressive Art Deco building and polished, stylish interiors. Situated next to central London's Regent Park, the hotel is relatively peaceful, yet within walking distance of many of the capital's attractions. Dining options are particularly impressive, with award-winning fine dining and an emphasis on healthy eating. Rooms are smart and perfectly well-equipped, though some are a little cramped. Travelers who want more space for their money could try the Go Native Apartments, just a block away.

The Rembrandt
11 Thurloe Place, Knightsbridge

The Rembrandt Hotel is an upscale hotel located in the tourist-friendly area of South Kensington, a short walk from a handful of museums, galleries, and other sights. The stylish, modern hotel has 193 rooms with colorful decor and high-tech amenities, such as interactive TVs. The numerous property features include a full bar, lounge, and restaurant; guests also get discounted day passes to the gym, heated pool, jacuzzi, and sauna at the adjacent Aquilla Health and Fitness.

Apex Temple Court Hotel
Fleet Street, 1-2 Serjeants' Inn

The Apex Temple Court Hotel is a 184-room, upscale property set just off a busy street in the City of London. Its location isn't perfect for tourists, but there's plenty within strolling distance and transport links are good. Interiors are stylish and in-room tech particularly impresses. The restaurant is excellent, though pricey, and the alfresco option is unusual for London hotels. Rates are high, but this is still central London and a swish example of this caliber of hotel -- compare rates with St Martins Lane Hotel for a more central setting.

The Bailey's Hotel London
140 Gloucester Road

The four-pearl, 212-room Bailey's Hotel offers plenty of historic character, and is packed with grand Victorian architecture. It's popular with both tourists and business travelers, with its enviable central Kensington location, just opposite Gloucester Road Station. Soundproofed rooms are traditionally decorated, with modern amenities such as air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, Nespresso coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. The elegant restaurant offers fine Italian cuisine, while the chic bar has an extensive wine and cocktail menu. A generous English breakfast is served daily for a fee, and afternoon tea is also available. There are several meeting rooms, and 24-hour access to the Millennium Conference Center, which is in the same building. For an on-site fitness center and sauna, travelers may want to consider the Crowne Plaza instead, which is just one block away.

The Exhibitionist Hotel
8-10 Queensberry Place, South Kensington

The Exhibitionist Hotel is an upscale boutique property in London's popular South Kensington area. It’s set just off bustling Cromwell Road, within walking distance of the neighborhood’s best attractions. The hotel lives up to its name, with rooms and communal areas that are bold and maximalist in design, commanding attention with their unusual array of artwork. High-end amenities include flat-screen TVs, Noble Isle toiletries, and in-room tablets, though rooms are on the small side. The 100 Kensington restaurant and bar is on the ground floor of the hotel and has a similarly bold style. It’s open for breakfast and dinner, but guest feedback is mixed on the food and service. Rates are steep, even for the area; try Double Tree by Hilton London - Kensington instead for a budget-friendly stay.
